Yes (y)

Ive put a 97 engine into a Mk2 Sportring and a 01 engine into a 99 Bravo :D

Problems you will face:

  • A smaller oil filter is required (minor)
  • The head takes the manifold with cat so you need the complete cat with some of the exhaust (youll need to make up a custom exhaust)
  • It will have a plastic manifold. You WILL need to transfer the studs for the nuts to sit on (you have the 2 piece metal/plastic inlet manifold)
  • Take out and blank off the cam sensor on the extention, the manifold wont sit on otherwise
  • Engine mounts are completely different but a straight foreward swap
  • Remove the knock sensor as the engine looms earth has to bolt into this
  • The coil pack and its mount will need to be changed round along with the leads and plugs
  • You will have to retro fit the power steering pump as most Mk2's have that crappy electronic system
  • The alternator is also in a different place on the Mk2
  • Change the dipstick holders round as I dont think they interchange very well

Your doing the easy one by the way! Hope this helped :)

thanks for the reply,

i've still got the old engine and all the manifolds, powersteering, pumps, etc. is it a case of just bolting everything to the mk2 engine and fitting straight in, also the cam blanking plate are these the same. thanks

Yep it should be a straight fit when its all connected, the only complicated bit is getting the exhaust made to suit. Forgot to mention that system has 2 oxygen sensors, you need to block the downstream one with an old sensor.

You have to make up your own blanking plate, seal it up with silicone and use the original bolt to hold it in place (y)

Will the mk1 exhaust bolt to the mk2 head, or will i have to use a mk2 exhaust manifold.

Mk2 exhaust manifold only, as this has the cat built in to it. The Mk1 manifold has a different stud arrangment and may look similar but don't interchange (been there done that) You need to make up the exhaust from the cat back :D

Did you need to change ecu?
