General earth straps on mk1 punto 60 sx

as in title where abouts are they located on this car ?? as battery seems to be dead but isnt (maybe alternator) (gettin a new 1 , from a mk2 W reg) but could it be the earth straps from battery to engnine etc :S confused but any help would be aprectiated

well i got a new battery, put it in fine for less thann a week (bare in mind it is sittin thr and has done for a few months but startin it up every few days)

well i need to jump start it to go, erm it turns but makes the sound it does wen u try turnin it over but then fails erm my uncle sed it could be the earth straps could be corroreded or it could be the alternator, so i dnt have a clue

Have you been charging the battery after you've been trial starting it?

Every time you start the car you take a hell of a lot from the battery. If you don't then drive the car for at least 15 minutes you will have reduced the amount of power left in the battery.

Symptoms still not clear to me. Are you saying that it used to start OK every few days but battery eventually went flat, with new battery (less than a week old) it cranks over but fails to start, battery becomes flat, try to jump start, cranks over again but still fails to start? If so, the problem is probably spark or fuel missing.

You've caned the new battery (which now needs recharging) but if it cranks at a reasonable speed either with own battery or via jump leads, it's likely that the earth to engine/gearbox is OK and the starter is OK and the battery is OK. The earth from battery to inner wing would be worth checking as that supplies return path for just about everything except starter and alternator.

Don't consider the alternator until you get the engine running. Then if the battery warning light stays on you may have an alternator problem.

well we bump started it as soon as i pushed it about a metre it started and then we ran it up the road for a few mins even tho i was ****tin myself coz the road tax aint startin til 1st june neither is the insurance, and wen we got it back to the drive turned it off and wen to retry and the starter motor like screeched like it was stuck,

So its not battery ot earth strap related then, possibly.

If the car hasn't been used for a while the bendix could be sticky. You really need to wait till Tuesday, then give it a good long run.

also make sure the stereo aint staying on, or boot light or interior light.
