Hello Everyone

Ive just bought a 1999 1242 16v mk1 punto, and am after some advice on some cheap modifications i can do to her, both under the bonnet and she's gotta look pretty aswell!!

Since the picture was taken, ive put the 14" alloys off my Seicento on her and changed the front indicators to clear ones, and she's looking much better already :)

As i know my way about a workshop, the cost of labor means nothing to me as all work will be done by myself and my father, but my budget on this car is pretty tight!

The head is in the process of being skimmed as we speak, and i am hoping to gas flow it when i get it back, any advice on the best method of gas flowing one of these??

I have heard about people putting the throttle bodies from a 1.6 brava/bravo/stilo, and was wondering how much performance i would gain and what else i would have to change along with the throttle body, ie injector rail/ injectors?

Any advice will be much appreciated!!

Chris

The 1.6 throttle body fits fine but less restriction means you loose bottom end torque, making it even more sluggish below 3500RPM. It does have more punch when the cam kicks in but tbh, to enjoy it properly you need to be above 3500RPM all the time - which is impractical.

I've looked into injectors in the past but the spray on the std ones is at an angle into the ports - I've yet to find larger ones with the same pattern and angle. Also, the fuel reg is built into the rail on this one so you can't just swap it out for an adjustable without changing the rail too.

Now, I was going to say you shouldn't bother with anything more than filter/exhaust as cams are ridiculous money (from Italy) and anything else is pointless without cams....

HOWEVER

Piper have just started offering their BP270 profile on 1.2 16v cams:

Not only does it add more power but the power kicks in lower and lasts longer - no mention of torque but would hope it's the same. That means the throttle body is useful again and with a bit of flow work and an aftermarket ECU (properly mapped), you could see some nice gains :)
