hey guys, doing a little porject, converting the 1999 mk1 punto 60s to a 1.2ltr 16v, i have the engine, ecu and the loom, but ive just read about a code box, can anyone shed any light on this.. do i need it to do the conversion? or can i get a fiat dealer to reprogram? as i pressume its so it can read the key.

If the donor was a Mk2, I think you'll need the body computer as well as the ECU. The body computer includes the receiver for the key code and it communicates with the engine ECU via a CAN-bus to enable starting when a good code is detected. That said, the body computer manages a lot more functions, particularly lighting and indicators so not sure of the practicality of a transplant to a Mk1.

The body computer is fixed to the back of the passenger compartment fusebox (driver's side).

no, can only add new keys (using the original master key)

A decent autolocksmith could make a key from the immobox, not sure if its possible to reprogram it though to match the ecu.

as said above, ecu, codebox, barrel and key OR get a autolocksmit to cut a key with your old key and program the transponder with the other keys transponder code, therefore removing the need to have the barrel replaced and have 2 different keys.
