I've done a bit of looking around and, like forged pistons, it seems the only way to get news cams for the "super FIRE" engine is a custom job.

Am I wrong? Will newer 1.4 16v cams go in and if so (and if anyone has experience), whats the power band like? The Mk1 1.2 16v sporting is pretty gutless until the the cams kick in at around 3500/4000RPM - which doesn't lend itself to, cough, economic driving
