my latest mod, uprated brakes. i bought some ebc pads and discs for my car, they were better than before but still didnt stop the car that well. so i had a look in the FAQ's and saw a tread about bigger brakes and managed to get my hands on some bravo 1.8 16v (95-01) calipers and new pads for £20!! then i got some discs and dot 4 and some new hoses (didnt need them really but thought as i had the calipers off and had to bleed it why not just replace them) they cost £65 and although the pads and discs arent made by brilliant companies they are so much better and when i brake heavily it doesnt snake about as much. the discs are vented and they look better behind the alloy. here's some pictures too. but to anyone who doesnt like theyre 1.2 8v brakes i will strongly reccommend doing this the calipers were very cheap but normally they'd be about £60 and about £25 for pads.
i will upload pics of them behind the alloy later!

i was going to paint the calipers but i dont want them blue or red or green and they were the only colours the motorfactors had. ill do them a nice silver so they look new!

not really too sure they came on the hoses and you cant take them off.

Nice to see the can of becks.
Nice, I prefer Budweiser personally though
it was a hot day, and becks is the way forward!

how much is it? and do i just spray/paint it on or do i prime it? obv ill wire brush caliper first.
more pics:D

Wire brush and an angle grinder, degrease, paint on. Calipers need to be off and stripped to do a proper job.

right well still havent painted the calipers will do it soon.made a bit more progress tho. i have taken off the P-U-N-T-O off the boot and the fiat off it and got my 2b lights in.

cheers! yes sporting spoiler is on the cards! they arent actually sporting alloys there off a mk2b!
munkul has just converted his and it seems like it would of been a bitch if he didnt have a lathe etc
why did he need a lathe? has he posted how he done it in a thread?

What would you need for a rear disc conversion?

I see you have a mk1, so you need a rear beam from a Punto GT. If you get a complete beam, it's a case of taking the wheels off, disconnecting the rigid brake hoses from the beam, undoing the four big bolts that hold it in place and gently lowering, then refitting in reverse (remembering to bleed brakes of course).

There is another way - you can just change the parts that are actually different - trickier, but better if you want to inspect or clean up each part as you go...

You will need...

Punto GT handbrake cable (x2 - same for each side)&
Punto GT rigid pipe ( x2 - or make your own)%
Punto GT caliper flexi-hose (x2)*&
Punto GT caliper-to-arm mounting bracket (x2)%
Punto GT caliper (x2 - this comes in two parts, the pad carrier and the caliper itself, make sure you have both)*
Punto GT flexi-hose bracket (x2 - for holding the flexi-hose where it joins the rigid hose)%
Punto GT tin backplate (x2 - optional)%
Punto GT pads&
Punto GT discs (240mm x 11mm - same as fitted to front of 55 S)&
Bolt set to hold it all together

You need to remove your hub/bearing assembly to fit the caliper-to-arm bracket. When doing this, you should fit brand new hub/bearings and hub nut (which will also require a torque wrench capable of 300lb ft). Do bear in mind though that I have not yet fitted the rear beam, I am saving up for the BiggRed treatment to my calipers first.

* - I have these available from a GT1 Punto, PM me if interested
% - available from Fiat
& - available from www.brakeparts.co.uk

If you need any help matching pads to calipers, feel free to ask. Good luck.

Mike
