i am thinking of getting more involved with my punto rather than putting it in a garage iam thinking of doing an oil change dont know were to start and how much oil to put back in or which oil to choose

well you havent given any info on the engine

first step would be to go buy a haynes manual, you are going to need a 12mm male hex socket to remove the drain plug. you will need a new oil filter.
10w 40 for an 8v engine semi synth
5w 40 for a 16v engine semi synth will do but fully synth is better

1.1 3.47 ltrs
1.2 8v 3.74 ltrs
1.2 16v 2.80 ltrs

sry to jump in I have a mk1 1600 mutipoint injection what grade oil should I use it has 74k on the clock ?
