i have a 1.2 punto sporting mk1 i am havin trouble with the gear box/clutch (long story). does any 1 know if a mk2 1.2 punto sporting 6 speed gear box will fit my punto?? please help if ya can thanks x oh and how easy and what extra stuff i might need to do it?? thanks

What's the reasoning behind that?

I believe its because it was proved to be a pointless conversion to go from 5 to 6 speed due to the gear ratios. someone proved it on here a couple of years ago... can't for the life of me remember who or which thread tho

Pointless how? No gain in acceleration, top speed or what? I personally found the 6 speed better in my tuned 1242.

If you can find a 6 speed box cheaper than a 5 I'd sooner have the 6.

They're worth more second hand anyway.

I can't really comment from experiance as after i'd read that i stuck to a 5 speed, so i don't actually know how they compare in the real world ill try find that thread....

although thats MK1 boxes... not sure if they fix the gear ratios/ diff ratio on the MK2s box.

I've been wondering about this conversion too, as 6 speed mk2 boxes are more common than for the mk1.

so if i was to change it to a 6 speeder would it be quicker??? or slower??? i cant seem to get my hands on putno sporting 5 speed anywhere mines the 1.2 16v any ideas where i might be able to get recon 1???
