I was driving my N reg Punto 60 SLX Selecta and suddenly the GEARBOX WARNING LIGHT came on. The car was still moving but I pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the engine then restarted it and the light did not come on. 10 mins down the road the same thing happened again, so i repeated the actions. When I went to reverse round a corner the light came on and despite using the accelerator the car would not move. Yet again i restarted the car and gingerly drove it home.

I have looked in the owners manual but it just says take it to a fiat specialist as it could mean a gearbox failure.

I bought the car 2 weeks ago from a garage with a full service history and noticed that the car had a recon gearbox fitted in 2000.

Could it be the gearbox or does the gearbox just need to be service.

please help
