where did you hear this?

mk2 keys (code 2) only programmed by fiat dealership.

I've heard that with earlier Puntos with the red key but not sure about later ones. If you were to do that it would override the immobiliser and you'd have to fit another or declare it to insurance and watch your premium rocket.

it would would surely stop an insurance pay out if a key was discovered taped like that when car was recovered

and how would the insurance know? the excess it prob worth more than the car

They will now.......you just posted it on an open forum for the world to see or if the car is recovered and it's found like that.........

how would it effect the immobiliser? the car just thinks your sticking the origonal key in... ( because the origonal is taped to the igintion behinf the steering rack plastic covering)

Not completely different - same theory of the chip communicating with the immobiliser on both systems. And if the chip is next to the immobiliser, overriding it, who needs a key to start the car?

they would need to rip the steering rack housing off to find out - im sure that an insurance company arnt going to go to that lengh over a car that really aint worth £1000

Dave is only trying to give you advice, its up to you wether you want to ignore it or not however first thing any insurance company will ask you in the event of a claim is 'keys please', also insurance inspects are mostly qualified engineers and know the score ( I deal with them alot and they are certainly no pushovers, infact will do anything to get out of a claim).

yeh understand what your saying, but if i do have the car stolen the excess's come to like £600, for a Y Reg sporting that prob worth about say £1000 max?

even then the insurance company prob would pay that.

I think if i have to pay £120 for replacement key there would be much in it.
