I'm in the currently down in Cornwall at Uni and the hood on my punto cabrio is a bit worn and letting some water in resulting in the car smelling a bit damp. I was wondering whether anyone knew where to go for a new hood in the South West area. My parents are in Somerset so anywhere in the South West would be good as i could drop the car with them.
Its still gots its original 12 year old hood and I thought that it deserved a treat lol.
Many Thanks, Ben

Yeh I did mean the fabric roof. Oh right well it looks like i may have to travel a bit further to get a replacement roof. anyone got any ideas - though i dont want to travel across the whole country lol.

Im after new new really. If i'm going to do the job I'd rather do it properly tbh. Getting a better condition hood wont really fix the problem i don't think. The one i have is in good condition really just from the age of it I think that water seeps through. No major leakages though. I have found a company that I can get the hood for £329 with VAT but no fitting or delivery. I was just wondering whether there was anywhere else.

Thanks for those links. The 2nd two are the same and thats where I had got the quote I already have lol. The first one is more expensive so I think that I will be leaving that one out. :)
Yeh I'm pretty sure that it is the roof. Its been slowly getting worse and worse over the last year or so. No other leakages and when you feel the inside of the roof under the headliner its really quite saturated. I'm now thinking about what colour to go for. At the moment it has a blue roof but I was wondering whether the car would look better with a black roof. The colour of the car is yellow - what do you guys think?

HI RPaterson & Lytescary,

Sorry I did not visit the forum for sometime. I do have a yellow Punto Cabrio, the original colour for the hood is black (it matches well with the rubbers on body & bumper), although I think blue will also fit nicely.

I've done quite a bit of research on the hood as well, I've discovered that even the genuine article is not that expensive - contact Fiat dealer. There is also a German company that you may try (http://www.eurotop.de/start.htm), but they are a bit more expensive.

Before you buy anything, check carefully the seals as to make sure that you in fact close your doors properly. I know that this is a bit weird but sometimes the doors has to be closed quite gently. If this is not where the problem is, I suggest you celetape some toilet papers in various places inside the car on the hood itself, you can then see where the problem is. Most probably it leaks from the rear window, if that's the case, you can simply glue it back from OUTSIDE, an easy job.

Good luck
Anthony:)

Thanks, but I have already changed the roof lol. Had it changed just before christmas and has completly solved the problem.
In relation to a black roof being the original - I'm afraid your wrong :) I was going through my service history the other day and I have the original purchase brochure and the yellow cabrios came with blue hoods. I dont know why as like you, I think the black fits in better with the rubbers etc. I have actually gone for a black hood because of this :)
Thanks for the help though!

Hi Lytescary,

No problem and Thanks, I learned something new - in fact I've just brought my Cabrio only 2 months ago! Did you fitted the hood yourself? If so, is it difficult? I watched Wheelers Dealers on TV, changing hoods seems to be a scary job! I need to do it for my car next year.

My car is a 1.2 16v Cabrio, and I bet you would share with me that our cars are very cheap to run and very torquey too. There are only 2 Cabrio 16v in Hong Kong, so I'll try all my best to keep it for at least 10-15 years, although I am trying to save money for the new 500C, let's hope I can afford to keep 2 cars!

Have a nice day!

Yeah I did fit the hood myself. But I sort of cheated. I bought another Cab with a brand new hood with an engine problem. So I just changed the whole frame over. Alot easier that way. I understand that just changing the hood is a bit harder as you have to get it stretched in an giant oven thing lol.

Well actually the two cabrios that I have are the 1.6 versions, so cant really share the same view :) Although im very happy about the engines. Wow only 2. thats pretty amazing. Yeah keep it aslong as possible. My parents gave me mine after they had it for a few years. So its been in our family for a good few years now.
And as requested:

Hi there,

Your car is lovely and the pink one is quite interesting too. My car looks exactly like yours except some minor differences, e.g. the number-plate light cover is in black, and there is no ELX for the Punto badge. Our weather is drizzling at the moment, once the sun comes back, I'll try to upload some photos.

You have fitted the hood very nicely, a professional job.

In case you may not know, it costed only less than 40 pounds to equip my car with a genuine remote central-locking set - just by replacing a relay inside the glovebox - a one minute job. I reckon it would be handy in the UK during winter.

Cheers.

Mine already has remote central-locking :) It came as standard. And your are right it does come very useful during the winter months with all of this snow and that we have been having over here lately!
Thanks for the compliment on the roof. Was an ok job really - just took a while trying to do it all on my own!
Pink one is interesting haha - you can say that again. I only bought it for the new roof. It doesn't really look like it does on the pics anymore. It now has my old blue roof on it and it doesnt have the alloys anymore. I need to try and sort it out soon before my grandad starts ranting and raving - seeing as though it is parked outside his house atm.

Hi there,

It might be a nice idea to remove all the essentials such as pipes, glasses, electric window switches, seats before sending it away to the scrappy - don't forget about the digital clock as well.

My local dealer told me that the usual problems are the alternator, radiator, and water pump - make sure these are saved. Moreover, you need to change your cambelt once in a while, it's not so much mileage dependent, but time dependent, as it is made with rubber.

Last week, I've discovered that my brake fluid level sensor didn't work & hence replaced. Do have a check on yours too.

Have a good Sunday!

Oops! I didn't read the sentence where you brought the pink one with the intention for sale. Sorry!

hey, i have just bought a Punto mk 1 M reg cabrio. It has central locking and appears to have an alarm system fitted, but it is not working!
Can anyone help?

Many Thanks Laura
