New to forum. hey people. In june i bought a fiat punto (R-Reg 97. 60 sx) ad everything was fine until the front 'box' broke off and was replaced. Then the front gasket went as well. They have both been replaced but the front gasket broke off again, turns out that they didnt replace it a second time =/. The thing is i dont have any idea where either of those are as ive never been an engine person.

I have looked on search engines for engine diagrams and such but with no luck in finding any diagrams at all. Could someone please tell me where the 'front box' (is it actually a piece of the exhaust or part of the engine??) and front gasket (is that the right name??) are. or even better post a few diagrams or links to engine diagrams because id like to know more about my car and be able to have a look at things myself.

muchly appreciated for reading, hope to hear back.

oh and anything about steering racks too, because i have bent mine just a little lol

A good place to start to find out more about your car would be to get yourself a car manual..........people like halfords stock them.

ive looked in halfords and places like that but they dont have a manuel =/ very confusing.

They do have a manual for this car, lots sold and still in print, cost £18ish.
Keep looking
or buy from Amazon. You need the one with the Red cover as there is a couple for the punto.

You can get a haynes manual from halfords for about 12 quid. Ask one the very helpful staff if there isn't one on the shop floor!!!

Sounds like your exhaust has had it (same as mine), but a gasket should only cost a couple of quid from a proper motorfactor (halfords don't carry these bits). Always a good idea to have a look about underneath the car to get acquainted with where the bits and pieces are.

Hope a little help!

your front box is not a box its a pipe between manifold and cat box the bottom is a kind of flexi pipe . the gaskets is between cat box and front pipe

exhaust gaskets should only go if they haven't been fitted well or cos they are old the most easily worn part of the exhaust especially if the exhaust has alot of movement. sounds to me like you may have knocked the front box to make it break, take it to a local garage (not quik fit) and ask them to diagnose the problem and get a quote and or parts list for repairs, also Halfords do sell haynes guide for the punto mk1 butt its an inclusive manual of all models but has everything you need to know.

get yourself a manual of ebay ??? and make sure whatever you do if you do repair it yourself dont use gum gum (exhaust paste) before the catalyst , as said above a gasket only few quid , just use it on its own though ;)
