Hi,

As title - absolutely standard GT1, turbo spools up fine (can hear it it boosting) and registers half way on the boost gauge but car doesn't want to go - sort of hesitation/just does not pull.

All inlet hoses are connected fine with no splits and plugs are new. Feels more like an electrical prob as opposed to mechanical but i'm not really sure.

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated?

Cheers!

Thanks a1ant - how can i check the MAF sensor and where is it on a mk1 GT?

Cheers!

Hi mate,

Its at the rear of the air filter box, or just after the filter if you have an induction kit. You can try giving it a clean with some carb cleaner. Failing that, do you know anyone else with a GT who you can borrow a MAF from and swop just to test?

Alan

Same thing as the AFM then by the sounds of it. If so, it's not this 'cos the AFM was changed 6mths ago!

Any other ideas??

Yea, MAF and AFM are the same thing. Have you done any modifications? Or is it standard? Do you have a boost controller?

Alan

Nah, completely standard - no mods at all.

Plugs are brand new - poss HT leads and /or coil? Could they be breaking down under load do you think?

Can I test them or is it case of buying them and hoping for the best??:(

Hi mate,

When your on boost, is it steady? Or fluctuating? HT's and coils are possibility, but you'd notice an almost misfire with them.... so when in your first post you say "hesitation/no pull" is this consistent throughout the RPM range? Or is it hesitation at low revs (say when pulling away) and then fine higher up the rpm range?

(sorry for all the questions lol, just trying to rule out things)

Alan

Fine with the questions - appreciate the interest and help!

Hesistation/lack of pull seems to be when the engine is under a decent amount of load - put my foot well down on the gas and get the boost upto half way on the gauge but the car does not really go anywhere.

There is also an issue when pulling away in 1st - engine sort of "bogs down" and requires alot of revs to get it going.

I'm hoping they are both the same issue!

sorry to semi hijack
I'm just looking at buying a stanadard GT1.
sounds like a similar problem to this one, no power (poor running) without boost but runs fine on boost.
ben told it might be something to do with an RPM sensor or a phase sensor?
does this sound right? either that or the AFM.

sounds like a similar thing to your problem Warwick

You're not hijacking - appreciate the reply!(y)

Not quite the same problem - mines struggling on boost it drives fine without boost.

Doubt it'll be the RPM sensor as this would effect the revs throughout the power band - not just on boost or off boost.
Could possibly be the phase sensor but i don't know enough about how it works.
Possibly also the AFM although as i've said mine is relatively new (but this doesn't mean i'm going to discount it completely, i'll check it over!)

Yours could be the AFM though - seems like a very common problem on GT's.

I'm gonna check all the vac hoses and boost hoses properly first and then go from there.

Cheers!
