Hi there! would appreciate any help and advice?!!
My punto Cabriolet 1.2 16v has gone kaput... this is what happend...
I was driving on the motorway where i head a ticking noise, then a juddering, i saw that my temp indicator had shot right up, I pulled over into the hard shoulder and steam/smoke? was an acrid smell poured from front bonnet, got towed home and there was oil leaking from the engine...
cant really afford a lot of money on this car do i need a new engine do you think?
or is it just head gasket, or somthing to do with the fan belt, or water pump?
no life in it when i start it now.... if the engine is nackerd what engine can i straight swap it for from the scrapyard?
cheers in advance for any help you can give me, newbie! - Paula

Very difficult to diagnose, You tried starting it I assume it turned over OK any odd noises? if no then basic engine is probably OK but could be gasket, or pump etc. You really need some one to check the engine, compression check etc, any coolant in the radiator, oil level, take out spark plugs, Thermostat stuck? sounds like it overheated engine could still be OK but piston rings can stick in pistons loosing compression I have recovered an engine in this condition by pouring a teaspoon of REdex down each plug hole & leaving over night spin engine over in morning with rag over plug holes to catch ejected Redex. I can't say but you may be lucky need to find out why it got hot.
