Hey!

I've looked through this site but still can't seem to work out why I'm having problems....
Bought my 1.2 Punto S60 about 5 months, and the temperature gauge has never seemed to work. After reading through many threads on here about people having the same problem I tried replacing the red ended temp sender, but at best the dial is moving a few mm and never getting getting past the first 1/4. I'm all out of ideas(n) can anyone else think of what it could be?

Thanks in advance!

Could be a faulty gauge or wiring problem. Check the connection on the sender is clean and secure, and no damage to the wire. Does the engine actually get hot and the thermostat open? Might be stuck open and engine running cool.

Well i did try sitting outside the house holding the car's revs to about 3000 continusly for 5 mins or so and the temperature gauge did rise up past the first quarter, but no further than that. The radiator fan did kick too so at least i know thats working, but i'm still stumped.

I've checked the cable, it seems fine! I'll give it a clean later on and let you know once my car's fixed (some little sod cut my fuel lines trying to steal some petrol last night, so nogo untill i cn get that repaired )

strange, a 60s doesn't come with a temp gauge, did you install it, or was it like that when you bought it?

the fan doesn't normally kick in till just about halfway, sounds like a dodgy reading, but if the connection was bad i would imagine no reading at all, is the temp sender properly secured?

It was fitted when I bought it about 5 months ago. The temp sender is as secured as i can see possible, it's tightly screwed in and I'd bled the radiator after replacing it so i cant see why. Now my car's up and running again i might take a look at the cable connecting it and make sure its not damaged and maybe give all the contacts a good clean!
