Hi All,

I'm a girl with a 1995 punto 75, with no brake lights and no user manual.
It's not the bulbs (even though I had to tip about 3 litres of water from the lighting cluster) so I'm assuming it's a fuse.
However, I can't find the bleeding fuse panel!
Please help me!

could of well short circuited and tripped the fuse
Make sure tho that u check the bulbs are dry and they are making good contact - as the water also have corroded the connectors

And fuse box should be in a pannel near ur right nea - been a RHD

Yahoo says
" The fuses are behind the small recess in the dashboard below and right of the steering wheel in right hand drive."

Hi there

Under the steering wheel to the right, theres a little panel with two cross head screws. I think its like a little oddment tray. Anyway, when you open the panel, it should be either the middle fuse in the top row, or the middle fuse on the bottom row and according to the manual, its a 15A fuse.

Hope this is some help to you and good luck.(y)

Cheers guys - found fuse panel, but now have to work out which one it is!
Not middle top or middle bottom - they are marked as Fog lights and 'service' (?)

any ideas?

Hi

The one named "Servizi/Services" is the one. It covers the a whole range of stuff including the brake lights and reverse lights and the indicators etc...

Oh. I thought it would be something to do with the stereo.
Oops.
Righty ho - off to Halfords I go.
Bit strange though - all other lights are fine - indicators, reverse lights etc....

Ah right, its probably not the fuse then. You should be able to tell if you take the fuse out and have a look in the middle as you can usually see the fuse wire running through the middle. Is it just that light cluster or have both of the brake lights gone?

Both brake lights gone - all other lights okay.
Just off to try the fuse - can't see if it's gone so will try one of the shiny new ones i've just bought.
What is a brake light switch?

It's not a fuse.
Did a search and found a few bits on here about brake light switches.
Think i've found mine - a litle metal pressing thing resting on thr brake pedal.
Pressed it in and out okay so it isn't stuck, is there a way to take it out and test it?

No.
Just a gas meter ;)
Probably best go to the garage then i guess...
Never mind, was getting quite excited about fixing something myself.

Apparently my other half's Dad may have one.....
What do I do?
Apologies for using this forum like a reference book - but with so much knowledge about i'd be daft not to try and get tips!

Hi

Disconnect the wiring plug from the switch. Set the multimeter to continuity (ie beeps when the two probes are put together etc) Put one probe in each connection on the switch, and then press the break pedal. The multemeter should show continuity when the switch is pressed. If not, the switch is dead.

Thanks A1ant - I'm hoping to be able to test it tomorrow.
Littlepip - very generous - I'll be in touch after my investigations!
Wish me luck......

Hi,

After my thorough investigation I can coclude that it is the brake light switch.
So - littlepip - I'd like to take you up on your generous offer. Please pm me your address and I will send you a stamped addressed envelope - plus whatever you think is the going rate for this part.
Thank you!

ok it's on it's way i set the adjustment on it so that it sticks out at it's furvest

so when you twist fit it in place you'll have to pull the break pedal up against it to push it out to the right position you'll here it clicking but don't go to far up or the lights will not go out when you let go

try to lift it to the position it would normally rest at when it returns on the spring

nothing ever straight forward is it

Hi,

I'd like to thank littlepip for his generosity - he sent me a brake light switch, posted instructions on how to fit it, and as a result i probably saved a fortune as i didn't have to go near a garage!
all this, and he doesn't know me from adam.
Very kind.
Many thanks to everyone else who helped me as well.
It seems that cars are not so scary after all - I half want something else to go wrong as it's satisfying to sort it out yourself!
