Undecided on which is best.

I know the diesel will return better MPG but the Sporting has a 6 speed box and bodykit.

Apart from that what are the differences in suspension, performance, brakes etc?

Feedback appreciated on this.

I am especially interested in seeing Rolling Road Dyno graphs on the two if anyone has one?

1.4 is the better option. If the Diesel were a 1.9 it would have to be the Diesel for me.

for a 95 bhp car they are not very fast imo look somewhere else if its performance your after....

1.4 16v petrol would wipe the flow with a remaped 1.3 IMO. Unless its MPG of course .

A GSR remap and Kit will make it around 120bhp and drives much better :).

I thought the 1.4 petrol may be better, does anyone know if the gearing up to 4th gear is the same on both cars?

However in the real world, when not racing, the Multijet will feel faster I presume?

A GSR/ Red Dot 1.3 Multijet remap to 100bhp & 150 ft/lb of torque should be nice though right? Anyone got rolling road graph for the multijet?

Thanks

the torque of a remapped multijet would pull much better once in motion compared to a 1.4 sporting...

not all about bhp :) so yeh ur reight it would feel ok

Has anyone here driven both the sporting and multijet? How do they compare?

Yes I have. And tbh they Don't compare its like comparing chalk and cheese. The 1.4 Sporting is definatly faster especially tuned probably because of the better gearing and being slightly lighter and higher revving engine also. The engine is very torquey and plenty powerful for what it is.

The 1.3 diesel is noisy, very laggy (small engine big turbo syndrome), and generally quite slow due to the turbo lag all the power comes in one go between 1600rpm and 2600rpm then theres very little. There is a bonus which is the very good economy especially once remapped you can achieve 60mpg with a little effort.

Which one you choose depends very much on what driver you are and what the majority of your journey's entail.

If your doing 20,000miles a year 80% of which are on the motorway go for the multijet. If your doing any less and more bendy stuff go for the sporting  :slayer:.

Thanks for the feedback!

I am more after MPG with performance rather then outright performance, plus the 1.3 is congestion charge free in London in October!

Here is a remapped dyno run with graph at the end I found on you tube for the multijet:

Here is the company: http://www.upsolute.com/index.php?option=com_upsolute&task=car&id=2118&id_marke=9&id_model=39

I wonder if a digital tuning box would be better?

Does anyone have a GSR remap graph, I'd like to see one!

Tuning boxes as a general rule are rubbish compared with a dynamic remap. Most often just work by increasing fuel rail pressure on a linar basis inline with standard map. I've seen what they can do at GSR / Red-Dot with a 1.9 Multijets and the results are amazing, lots more power and very little extra smoke (y).

Re: Punto Sporting 1.4 (95bhp) >Vs.< 1.3 Multijet Diesel (Can be remapped to 95bhp)

But what are then engine component differences between the 70, 75 and 90bhp versions?

Also I have been told that the Punto MK2b 1.3 Multijet does not have a DPF (Diesel particulate filter) and so can be mapped better? Do the Grande Punto'S HAVE DPF's fitted?

Thanks

70 & 75 versions are just a different map
90hp different turbo but heared it suffers turbo lag

the dpf/cat can be removed, i've taken mine off and it passed mot test
the main problem with remaping is the clutch and gearbox being weak
