I Have A 1995 Punto S 1.1 Petrol .. And As im Sure You Guessed I want A BIGGER Engine i Was Just Wondering If The engines From All Other Puntos Would Fit and Also If any Would Had Transplanted And Engine From Another Car E.G. Ford/Peugeot .. Thansk For All Help

other punto engines fit...

buy a new car, the engine conversion will cost you over a 1000 just to source and fit and then the insurance premium would be more than if you just bought the car with that engine in the first place.

the only reason i want to do the engine in this car is because i have had the car sprayed a custome colour i have all my bdy kit on it neons full chrome exaust system and i have made a fiberglass speaker enclosure to fit yet once i get the chnace to remove the rear seats and wire in the speakers ect. so i have put alot of time and effort into this car as well at $$$$ so changing its is something i dont want ot do though i was looking at getting an audi a3 for my birthday in may

You've spent a lot of money customising your shell, so you don't want to switch cars, it's understandable.

You could do a 1.2 16v Sporting swap, or a 1.4 GT Turbo. The GT will have circa 135bhp depending on it's condition. I'd budget about £2,000 for a good engine swap, without cutting any corners- don't forget it's not just the engine- electrics, brakes and maybe even suspension should be upgraded too.

A standard 1.4 GT should be fairly reliable too, but it is very expensive.

If someones going to give you a car for your birthday, why bother with this work?

Tbh i wouldnt have spent that much time, money and effort on a car with a small engine.

It will probably cost you almost as much as the car to get an engine transplant... id budget about 2 grand at least. Plus you will have to find a mechanic stupid or ambitious enough to do the work for you, unless you have the workspace, tools and knowhow to do it yourself.

A standard 1.4 GT should be fairly reliable too, but it is very expensive.

Thats true, this will probably be the best engine for the job, however they are an old engine now...

I would side with Tris on this and say just cut your losses and buy a different car with a larger engine. Insurance will be much cheaper than it would be with the same engine in your current car.

However, by the sounds of things i should think you will have a hard time selling it, with all the mods you have done...

Why whenever someone asks a question about engine swaps, everyones first answer is to buy a new car? Econmically a sound decision, but people get attached to thier personal vehicle, why does no one here seem to understand that?

People bitch about the 1.4 tubby being old and unreliable, but how many people that say this have actually owned one?

If you don't want to switch engines, you could always tune your current one. It's just as expensive, and everyone will tell you that you are an idiot for doing it, but it's do able with enough cash.

Thats because the people that ask about engine swaps generally know nothing about it and dont have the first clue as to whats involved- they think you can pretty much just take an engine out of another car and its job done.

this forum is for advice- we're advising that its cheaper and easier to simply buy a faster car.

:yeahthat: And another thing :p Why does everyone say "get another car"? It's all well and good but you could just say that about ANY car. Got a Sporting? Get HGT. Got a HGT? Get an M-Jet. Got an M-Jet? Get a Coupe. Rinse and repeat until we all end up with Veyrons lol.

youve just contradicted yourself

the reason we say get another car is because its cheaper, ie less expensive than modifying the original,

Isn't that the whole point of a forum like this? To share knowledge with those who just don't know?

this forum is for advice
Then why do people not advise on what the OP asked, about fitting engines? Instead they just reel off what some other member posted back in the last engine swap thread, buy a new car bla bla bla.

Boring.:p

I agree. I'm not debating that at all and I think it's good advice. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes people want to modify the car they've got. Isn't that the whole point? That's what some people don't seem to understand. Would you say that's it's pointless getting a set of coilover's when you could just get another car? OR colour-coding your wing-mirrors when you can just but a Sporting? Okay, I realise this isn't the same as an engine swap, but the principle remains.

The raeson i ask is ecause i intend to keep the punto when i get the a3. a si dont intend to do anything to the a3 just leave it as is ... your right you do get attched to your cars and ive never hasd a probelm with my punto untill its was almost stolen from me whilst i was parking .. since then i have had problems with battery .. no problem i get one when i get paid .. thanks for all your advice i appreciate that it wont be cheap but i do enjoy the drive of the car and will still go out in it but for driving in the day ect the a3 will be nicer and i wont get hassled by the police soooo much .. but for the cruises ect going out of an everning the punto shall we say LOOKS cooler my intention was always to do the inside of teh car first then the outside then to performance and as i have no real comitments money wise thats not an issue my uncle is a mechanic and im pretty clued up and weve done the whole car together and my previous car .. my dad has also chnaged an engine in the punto before and i realise that its all e;ectrica;l event down to the exhaust wire going in and out .. so i will ge an engine and the faster the better justr wanted suggestions and advice as apose to an arguement(y)

if you have a highly modded car that has had thousands spent on it, you would want an engine swap. If you had a near-standard car, you would be slightly daft not to simply sell up and buy another car... unless you absolutely loved it to bits way beyond human love lol

or if you had a good basis to start from, say a 1.2 16v, you may as well tune the engine and handling, and you have a cracking little car :D

how about the sporting engine then, 1.2 16v 85bhp standard.

good GT engines are like gold dust really, hard to find, most likely will need a re build. I dont know if you can use the mk2 engines... you could get the 1.8 out of the HGT...
