Right, I'm after some serious ideas on how to get extra acceleration and speed form my punto.

Without stupid get a faster car ideas.

I only have a 1.1 55 punto.
Its got simple mods like:
DTM Back box/modified modbox.
SupaRamair Induction kit.
And many cosmetic looks.

I want more speed without changing the engine for insurance purposes
And I want ideas i can do myself.

Ive thought of many.

I will De cat my car soon.
Thinking on a s/s manifold.
Can i put a 16v head on my car like Davethetrike did to his 1.2?
Maybe change the flywheel.
I know this car wont be GT/sporting speeds i just want that little bit more speed.
Any ideas please let me know.
and if anybody has the parts also let me know.
Thanks.

Ryan

I already know that i am going to make the decat and supersprint manifold done.

Can anybody tell me if i can put a 16v head on my car and what i would need and how hard it is to do it?

And any other ideas please are welcome.

Anyone with the parts too. PM me.

Thanks Guys.

have a look int the cinq section as the sporting has the same engine and have a look at what they have done, we have a cinq sporting which had a superchip when it was bought, have fitted a gsr ind kit and supersprint b/box these made a noticeable difference in power, estimated to be 66hp, 55 standard,
if you remove the cat you'll need a custom remap to tell the ecu the cat has been removed otherwise it will run very lean and damage the engine

Thanks Toad, ill have a look now.

Im still after the awnser to my 8v to 16v question tho haha.

and can I not just de cat it with the ss pipes?

Thanks

Lambda sensor you mean?

My lambda sensor is in the fornt pipe.

No sensor after cat.

Know anything on the 8v to 16v question?

Thanks Toad

 hang on, if the lambda sensor on the 55 is the same place as the 60, then removing the cat will not harm the engine at all.
i had mine out for a while, sounded good but i didnt feel much improvement over standard.

Until you put some 100 octane fuel in it cause now you can :D

:p hehe

actually, i tried running mine on BP ultimate (thats 98 ron instead of 96 or 95, plus "special" added lube and ****) and if anything, it made my car slower:confused: while gobbling juice.... not recomended in my experience, for the 8v at least

My friend runs his Bravo 1.6 16V on 98 octane, he says it goes a bit better, but maybe he's full of it cause this fuel is cheaper and he doesnt wanna be known as a "snake in the pocket" kind of person :D
Kiddin a bit, I believe him pretty much, but his MPG is a touch much, if you wanna bother calculating its 12-14 liters per 100 km in city conditions, rush hour etc, and no way bellow 9 at open road....plus winter conditions, it can go upto 15-16 in city :yuck: :bang:

Now mine 8 liter on 100 km, 9 at winter, 6 on open road doesnt sound bad at all :yum:

But he beat the crap out of my pants when we tested our accelleration bonet by bonet :D 1.6 over 1.2, didnt expect nothing else, but when I drive in my Punto I have a feeling it accellerates better then when I'm in his Bravo

thats right :) some mk1's have a second lambda sensor,

Thanks for that lads, still no helpful ideas tho haha.

will Vpower from shell help with the Decat?

i've heared that tesco super unleaded is better and usually cheaper
if your after extra power for a bit of fun then nitrous would be an easy way to go, insurance companies don't charge much extra for it as its not always running

tbh the get a faster car idea isn't stupid, it's the only sensible idea for a 1.1 Punto

You can spend thousands on the engine and still end up with something that is only as fast as a GT that you could have bought and then spent the extra on doing that up.

people tune the 1.1 Cinq engine because it's the largest engine the car came with, whereas in the Punto it's the smallest engine

i would advise that you spend as little as possible tuning the 1.1 unless you plan on doing something unique and special with it (a la davethetrike and his supercharged 1.2 16v) and put the money safely away for a faster car, whether that is a faster Punto or another make/model

Thanks for the useless comment Tony!

Try this one...
Said by a great man!
"If you don't have anything good to say, dont say anything at all"
Take the hint ;)

Loads that can be done but depends on how much you have to spend!

Seriously though as said you can spend thousands and not even notice massive changes. Let me give you an example of what I did to my yellow Seicento Abarth and the results:

1. Novitec Performance Chip added 4HP @ £200
2. Novitec Duplex Stainless Exhaust added 3HP @ £420
3. Novitec Carbon Box added 4HP @ £200
4. Novitec Camshaft 10HP @ £300
5. Tricker 40mm Throttle Body 13HP @ £120 (y) (Best mod ever)
6. Skimmed head for Raised Compression 3HP @ £70
7. Polished Valves with Cut Valve guides 1/2HP @ £50
8. Magnecor KV85 HT Leads with Champion EON 2 Plugs 1HP @ £80

There was a few more things that I have forgot now but the total price for that lot is £1440 geez all that for 40HP but wait... I wasnt even getting that much as nothing works together as well in the engine bay as all these companys would have you believe, its not as simple as adding the estimated BHP increases from all the mods! I think my Seicento was more in the region of 30HP increase not 40HP... Also I purchased sports brakes and pads and fully lowered my car so that the extra power was dealt with correctly with the rest of the car!

All I am saying is 55 HP to 85HP still is not massive and £1440 is better spent on an already faster car that wont need its brakes looking at and suspension!

If you are dead set on tuning then my list above is a good start, obviously you may not want to pay for Novitec but all those Novitec items can be done with other companys and I see most of my list as what I would call "real" mods that do work and will increase power!

To save on modding I just got an HGT Punto and that solved my problem of speed straight away!

Cheers
