Hi all,

Have just found this forum and it looks like a life-saver! (y)

Here's my problem. I have a nice Fiat Punto 75SX 1994 L Reg (MK2?) and it seems to have a few problems. It mainly seems to happen on a cold start but here are the symptons:

Lack of power when trying to accelerate in gears which it'd normally be fine in i.e. 3rd gear on a very slight hill and it just doesn't want to know. (Even on flats it can be trousblesome to get up to 30mph.)

The thing is, when this happens, the rev counter will go up as per usual but there just doesn't seem to be any power going through to the engine so I could be doing 3K revs and I'm doing about 15/20mph in 3rd. It just seems to stutter.

I have noticed that my water and oil seem to go down quite quickly too. Not an every month sort of thing but I do have to check every 4 or 5 months and normally have to top them up. The car doesn't seem to have any leaks.

I'm sure this happened a few years back and replacing the spark plugs seemed to cure the problem...

Not sure if anyone can diagnose this but any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jon.

Have you changed the plugs since last time? They are meant to be changed every year really, along with the routine servicing. also topping up your oil and water every 4-5 months isn't a problem on a car thats been round for over a decade it might be burning a little it might have some leaks but unless its causing you severe inconvenience (i.e. dropping pools of oil and water) fixing it will be more of a job than checking it periodically. You do do regular checks under the bonnet? the post gives the impression you look under there twice to three times a year...
