When i get a years no claims[}:)], i am planning on buying some 17" oz titan alloys with 205/40/17 rubber from halfords. My only problem is my insurance company (churchill) who will not insure me if the alloys protrude the wheel arch and i was wondering if the 17"s will do that (especially if i need spacers)?

Cheers guys!

I think you should be OK but you should check for sure - I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have wheels wider than the arches.

I don't know really why it's illegal - maybe a safety thing - but it must be right because someone on puntoforum has said that too to the same question!

I guess the insurance companies only care because they know it's illegal...

the law is like that to stop people using cars with patruding wheels e.g. ilegal kit cars. but if your wheels do stick out which they wont as i have 17"s you will fail your MOT. dont go for wheels any larger than 8" wide or they will stick out. your sould be ok without spacers as mine is all u relly need to worry about is te amount they wil scrub.

If they do protrude past the arches, one simple solution is to have your arches extended [8D]
