Hi,

I dunno if this has been up here already or not but as the title reads thats what i'm going for.

I bought my punto last June and have just finished the exterior and then my gearbox decided to give in, fair enough i got that fixed and now my piston rings are worn.

So basically i need a new engine so i was thinking of the 1.4gt, but i need info on what needs to be done. I have a 1999 1242cc series 60 at the moment 3dr ofcourse!

So does anyone know how much work this would involve and what i need to get changed???

Thanks for any help.

Basically...you need to buy a GT.
From the GT you'll need the rear beam for the brake upgrade.
Engine...obviously :p
gearbox
ECU
engine loom
dash loom (optional but you need it if you a working boost gauge)
Front brake setup probably wouldn't hurt for the bigger disks

Try going to http://www.puntosportsclub.co.uk/forums
and doing a search....it's been covered hundreds of times and there is a car undergoing the swap in the projects section.

in regards to petrol tank, brake lines etc....

does any ofthat have to be changed??

You'd need the handbrake cables from the GT...but seeing as you'd be changing the whole rear beam you'd do them with it.
Brake lines I guess are the same...I'm not an expert though.
Fuel tank can be changed...the GT has a metal tank whereas the others have plastic tanks....the plastic tanks can be used on the GT as a number of ppl have used plastic tanks when they're metal one was knackered. I'd personally prefer the metal tank....also it is ever so slightly larger :p

Like I said...bet bet would be to do a search on PSC....this comes up pretty much weekly on there.

could the plastic tank melt with the heat coming from the exhaust with the more powerful engine?

is the rear beam a must??

The tank could melt....that's why ppl tend to get the metal one...but there are a numbe rof GT's that use the plastic tanks when they could get hold of a metal one.
The rear beam is DEFO a must.....the rear beam has disc brakes...the same discs as the front of the lower models....the lower models only have brake drums...you need the rear beam simply to make sure you can stop relatively safely.
