Just been out for a spin in my son's 2013 1.2 Punto Easy and realised that every time I indicated left, the headlights came on (not foglights/cornering lights).
They also flashed on temporarily when cancelling a right indicator.
They are not illuminating when just applying pressure to stalk for lane change indication.
I'm assuming that this is probably going to mean a new column switch unit, but was wondering if you guys had any other ideas/potential causes before I start looking for a replacement.
Any help greatly appreciated :)

Try the hazards..

If it does it with hazards too its probably a poor earth

Is it with LED rear lights.. or bulbs ?

Sounds like a faulty stalk switch to me.

My favorite answer: Get MultiECUscan on it and that will tell you what the body computer thinks the stalks are telling it. If that is OK then you can turn on the indicators with MES and see what that does.

www.multecuscan.net You can buy an interface, adaptors and licenced version of MES for about £80 , less than a dealer charges for a single diagnostic session.

It doesn’t do it when the hazards are on.
It has the LED rear lights.
I used it today, and the lights just flashed on/off when using the indicator, rather than staying on....

Hmm even more weird. Do all the lights appear to be normal brightness? If so it's unlikely to be a bad light unit earth because the headlamp bulbs draw twice the current of an indicator bulb.
Could be any of these, but order of most likely.

1/ Faulty stalk switches.
2/ Short circut in wiring
3/ Faulty Body Computer.
Fault finding is either start with MultiECUscan, swap parts at random or use a meter to check all the wiring between stalks, Body Computer and lights.

I still put my money on the stalks but would use MES first.
If you are near Cambridge I could put MES on the car for you.

Bad connection somewhere, the MK2 used to have loads of problems like this. Usually came down to cheap connectors that caused short circuits (mine used to turn the sidelights on when I adjusted the heater fan speed)

What you describe does sound like it's something with the stalk

Thanks for the reply....
The lights are not dimming in any way
Unfortunately nowhere near Cambridge, but thanks for the offer.
Consensus at the moment appears to be stalk, which was my initial thought. I’ll see if anyone else has any bright ideas ?

Did you ever get this sorted? Just started getting exactly the same thing. Assuming stalk switch
