Been searching the forum for days now looking for an answer to my problem. I have a Punto 2017 1.2 petrol had it for 12 months (car went limp in traffic, there was no throttle response and I had to glide off the road to safety. The car will run for about 1 minute and then it triggers a check engine light and displays a message that the ESC & Hill Assist are unavailable, the engine starts to make a chugging sound and holds the revs around 1700RPM, throttle pedal is dead during this). I was really pleased i had recovery. It has been in the local garage express fit auto centre, they said it had a MAF fault code but the car does not have a MAF sensor fitted. so has the car was now running ok they said just drive it and see how it goes.
Sorry for this being long winded but any help would be very much appreciated.

So if it’s working ok at the moment I might be tempted to just leave it and hope the problem doesn’t come back, you could take it to another garage and ask them to check the fault codes but if the previous garage cleared them and the problem is now gone then it might just be a waste of £50 to have someone plug it in and tell you there is nothing wrong.

I’m no expert here when it comes to the newest petrol puntos but I’m 100% certain there should be some sort of air intake sensor there which makes me suspicious of you being told there is no MAF. It could be a detected fault cause the car to limp but with the codes now cleared the fault has gone away, with the ‘fault’ being an erroneous fault code. You could spend a lot of time chasing your tail on this when all you really need to do is drive it to see if the fault comes back.

The 1.2 and 1.4 petrol fire engines genuinely have no maf sensor just a map Sensor

My guess is codes were read a a system that dosnt work very well with fiat cars

As I said my feeling is there would be some intake air sensor so the fault was with the person using the machine and feeding back what was wrong, not sure if that was fully clear from my last post.

Thanks guys the garage did also say they reset the fault code. Should of asked what it was, never mind. Since then I have done some searching and found out the car does not have a MAF sensor fitted but does have a MAP sensor fitted. I have removed it and it was covered in gung so cleaned it up so I will just have to wait and see.
Cheers all.

Hi everybody car trouble again same problem. I do now own a code reader and the fault code is P0101 MAF or VAF A circuit range/performance. But the car is petrol and there is no MAF sensor so I presume no MAF circuit. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Research to see if Multi ecu scan will work with your car.
There could well be faults that a basic code reader cannot read causing your problems.

Sounds like my car last year a 2017 1.2. Come to a stop going down hill, tyre pressure e stability, eng management etc all came on. Car limped round the roundabout c1k rpm. Happened 3 times

time 1 no fault. we drove it with Fiat tech, who came out to see me in a retail car park. Drove the car for 20 mins and was told it`ll occur again but no fault found.

A day or two later, same roundabout same pack drill. This time I limed into work where D&G recovery turned up they found a air flow sensor fault and I had them ship the car to a local dealer (it was purchased less than 3 weeks prior and under warranty not there but at another Fiat franchise 20 miles away). The original dealer diagnosed a throttle position sensor fault they fitted a new TPS and got me to drive 30 miles to collect.

On collecting the car lasted 10 miles before dropping off the a12 to join the 130 when the car settled to idle and Tyre Hill start Stability Engine management same as before lit up like a christmas tree. Waited and hour and was able to restart with no faults showing before continuing to work. Had been leaving messages etc. Followed by garage turning up at my work with a little Mito for me. Fun car capital FUN!!!!

Long and short the Maf was then changed and hey presto 11 months later its been 100% reliable ( so far touch wood)

I`d guess either MAF sensor or the TPS

Engine light comes on and the car lacks power nothing over 40mph on a flat. The garage checked the car out on diagnostic machine and managed to reset a lot of issues the also replaced the cam sensor but the car is still having the same issue of power loss and engine light remaining on

What car ?
What year?
What engine?
What were the fault codes the garage read and cleared?
What is code currently causing engine warning light?

Re: ESC & Hill Start Unavailable = Limp Mode UPDATE

Ended up taking the car to the local fiat garage this is what they said on invoice- Checked for EML on and DTC p0101-62 air leak in intake manifold. Requires new EVAP valve, Valve replaced and the car is running fine now.
