The clutch pedal on my new Panda Cross 4x4 (July 2020 milage 1k) has suddenly went to the floor and staying there. I called Fiat Assist and while waiting for the mechanic to arrive I pulled up the pedal and got the clutch back. Managed to get home and the same thing happened. Fiat assist could not find a problem but think the problem is the slave cylinder and has ordered up the part ( on back order).

He said he could fit it the part when it come in stock and I would probably be better letting him fit the part at my home as a mechanic in the local dealership would probably say fault not found.

The gear change has been a bit notchy since I bought the Cross new, has anyone else had a similar problem.

comes up fairly regularly. Worth bleeding first and checking the carpets.

Most are the "master" cylinder but worth changing both

I would let Fiat do any repairs, when it fails I would park it where it is and contact the dealer. you have reported the problem to them so there is a log of the contact. when they arrive to collect the car the pedal should still be on the floor.

That fact I called Fiat Assistance means it is now on record with Fiat and when the Fiat guy came the pedal was on the floor. I just wondered if anyone else had a similar issue with an almost new Panda..I can see that other people have had similar problems but not with cars having done only 1K. Thanks for the reply.

Indeed it does, but this is a brand new car. The clutch actuating mechanism on RHD cars is a known weakness, but they don't normally fail in the first few months.

Not surprising if you have a clutch problem; any clutch drag will put a lot of additional stress on the selection mechanism, particularly the synchromesh cones. This is the bit that would concern me the most; the clutch problem will get sorted under warranty, but any long term damage done to the gearbox in the meantime will stay with the car.

A responsible manufacturer would take the car out of service until the clutch fault was fixed properly, providing a replacement courtesy car in the meantime, but that isn't Fiat's way of doing things. If the car goes on to develop a fault requiring gearbox replaement in five years time, it won't be Fiat's problem.

To be honest Fiat immediately offered a replacement car and the Panda will not move until the replacement part is available. This is my third 4x4 and I have always had excellent service from Fiat Customer Care. I doubt that there will be any major issues down the road and if the gear box is still notchy after part replacement I will address that issue with Fiat. I had a major rant with Fiat and the way they seem to be dumbing down the Cross 4x4 and they addressed all my issues.
