Hi, I’m new here, hope someone could help!

I recently brought a Fiat Punto 1.2 2013, currently at 43,000 miles.

When in idle the car is shaking, however whilst driving it goes away. Also when I put the air con on it shakes much less but you can still feel it a little bit.

It does not shake on a cold start. There’s not lights on the dashboard, and nothing shows up on the diagnostics.

I have recently changed my spark plugs, filters and oil, but the problem is still going on.

Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi, was the problem there before or after you changed the parts on your car?

Hi :)

At what rpm is it ticking over..?

If too low it will make it feel rough..

Charlie

The problem was there before I changed anything.

Sounds like an air leak, check all the pcv hoses and vacuum hoses for leaks, is the oil cap on correctly? It Dosent sound like a miss fire you have. Next it's checking valve timing and compression tests. Start with the possible air leaks

900 rpm also, but today I realised there is water leaking from underneath the car also.

When using aircon you do get the excess condensate drain from the evaporator that's normal. What's not normal is water/coolant dripping from the engine. Obviously needs tracking where its coming from and remedying. It does sound like air con condensate though

I’ve had it checked out by a mechanic he said the pipes were all okay and he also did an compression test which was also okay. He did also say it’s not a misfire.

I’ll see if it happens again and try work out where it’s coming from.

Yea OK, you MUST keep an eye on the coolant level/"water leak/temp gauge though because if it is a coolant leak they can boil real quick. Whareabouts in the country are you?

I will do. I’m based in London. I noticed whilst having a look at the leak that there is rust and what looks like a couple of small cracks on the exhaust box, could this be the cause to the main problems?

Hi, London is quiet a way from me, I would have had a quick look if you were more local to me. Small cracks on the exhaust silencer box can produce small drops of water yes, it's just the hot exhaust gases hitting the cooler metal of the exhaust and condensing, this should stop after a few minutes and definitely not happen after a run! Cracks in the exhaust box should not be there, are you talking about the joint between middle pipe and back pipe? Joints can sometimes leak but shouldn't really do so but this I'm sure would not cause your rough idle. Does it only judder when the air con is on? Or all of time regardless?
We are getting to the stage now where questions need to be replaced with a hands on inspection.
The only thing to do next is to get diagnostic check via the on board diagnostic port and see if anything comes up
Do you trust your mechanic? Is it worth getting a second opinion?
If your idle is OK but starts to judder when the aircon is on it could be normalish if the revs don't drop too low.
Let me know what you think of my suggestions but my opinion is to get a second opinion or get a diagnostic check done. Keep me posted

Hi

The rear exhaust silencer is made of several layers of steel

Over time.. these can peel like an onion..

They can look scruffy.. but still not leak

Howver IF the exhaust has any leaks.. that can make running poor

Sorry for the delay in response.

I had it checked out, got a diagnostics done and nothing is coming up.

However I have noticed something new, the radiator fan does not kick in at all unless the aircon is put on, which is when the car shakes less. But the car does not overheat it stay at 90 degrees. Could this be a faulty sensor or is that normal?
