I have bought a used fiat Punto 2013 the previous year. Recently I was using the car into the city with city mode on for two months on a daily basis and had a steering wheel failure so I changed the sensor and the column also. After this issue provoked never have use the city mode again. However today I had a long trip for about 500 km distance and I had the city mode enabled by mistake. Is there any case to provoke any premature problem to the system or to be more possible to have a failure again ? I would like also to ask you if it is possible to be deactivated automatically after certain speed .

The system automatically disables above approx 30mph/50km/h.

All Fiat family cars have electric PAS, and they're all prone to sensor/column failure but there doesn't seem to be any single underlying cause.
Not using City mode may help, but if you prefer to use it at slow speeds then carry on.
It lasted 7 years so I'm sure it'll be fine for a while yet
