Hi everyone ive recently purchased a twinair turbo (85bhp 62reg) i previously had a grande punto, ive done a bit of work on the car since purchasing it, ive had a full service, some work at the fiat dealership (timing gasket oil leak and abs sensor) and ive recently just fitted my turbo thats been reconditioned as it had the common rattle on the wastegate.

The issue im having is that when i work the car hard i.e go for a hard drive at 70+ and really keep on the accelerator it always seems that as soon as i release my foot when i put it back down the turbo either doesnt kick in or takes forever to spool up and give me power. If i allow it a minute or so to cool down it seems to be responsive again.

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and could help me with it?

When you say you’ve recently purchased it, have you driven this car or other twin air engines that don’t have this problem. Are you sure this isn’t just a characteristic of a tiny engine with a tiny turbo, hauling and comparatively heavy car.

I have driven this car its my daily driver, I haven't driven any other twin air cars so cant compare but from videos i have seen, none of them seem to have this issue and i dont think turbo lag at high speeds should be a characteristic of such a small engine?

Hi and welcome :)

Where are you based.?

Confident its not a fuelling issue..??

Multiair issue.. far from uncommonwith the uni/ multi units.. need good oil..( as does the turbo you seem to have trouble with)

My 2012 has been rocksolid.. but well looked after :)

How many miles has the car done, also are these a variable geometry turbo ? If the variable part of the turbo is not working right it can have an effect like this

I have posted what may be a similar issue - going well the TA is almost sporty - now mine feels like a tired diesel after only 30,000 miles on a 2014 - still searching for quick cure but may need to get it to Fiat
