I've had a load of trouble with my punto 2012, 1.3 miltijet. Regening weekly and stalling when idle. Four garages, including fiat dealership, couldn't diagnose the fault as there are no fault codes. Its now been diagnosed at a specialist DPF garage. Live data shows my EGR valve is sticking open. It's open more than closed. He's getting me a quote for a new valve (genuine fiat one) and he mentioned maybe blanking the valve and doing a remap. If it is blanked, are there any downsides? Do I have to declare this on my insurance as a modification and would it throw out an engine management light? Blanking would probably work out cheaper than a new valve so swaying towards this option. DPF is not faulty. He suspects the soot is building up due to the valve fault, causing the car to regen often. All the data shows the car is doing a regen when it is supposed to, in all the right conditions. I don't know much about EGR valves other than they recirculate the air to keep emissions in check. Worried it might fail an MOT.
