Hi fellow twinair owners. My twinair engine is extremely rattly at idle, but if you just just very lightly touch the throttle is stops and goes silent, drives fine, runs well, it’s just quite a rattle it gives off and is quite audiable in the staff multi story car park. Is it just the twinair unit I’m guessing as slightly touching the throttle stops it

Thanks all

Hi Charlie,

So the noisy rattle is only when cold, after the initial cold start and when the revs start to drop down, so around 1200 rpm, and then at idle until the engine is driven.
Yeah so after the car has warmed up it’s silent, no rattle at all. Dipping the clutch makes no difference but switching on the a/c or heated rear window makes a slight difference with the load!
Thanks for the reply!

Hi Ash, did you get to the bottom of this in the end?

My wife's 500 TA seems to have developed the same rattle. It goes when you switch off the AC :(

Thanks
Willem

Looks like the last time he was active on the forum was in February 2018 so might not stand much chance of him popping by and seeing your post.

Does your rattle sound like its in the car or coming from the engine bay?

Also does the noise speed up and slow down with the engine speed or does it speed up and slow down with the Fan speed in the cabin?

AndyRKett Hi there thanks for your reply, the sounds is coming from the engine bay and with the AC on any speed and you can hear it only whilst stationary. It will go if you switch the AC off, rev a little or press the clutch. Once moving the sound is not there.

thanks for your input

All belts are still original from new, also have an oil leak and noticed that this is related to the timing chain cover according to some posts on this forum. At 110k it might be worth replacing all belts in that case and reseal the timing chain cover.
