Hi my 2013 fiat punto 1.4 8v is only doing 28-30 mpg with normal driving. Short and long journeys from a full tank to the fuel light comming on it is only doing 250~ miles . What mpg are you all getting and what could be causing mine to be so far away from the 49 recommened by the manufacturer?

Hi, :)
firstly, 49mpg is "test conditions"
unless you've got all the front grilles taped over, etc,
that'll never happen, especially in a UK winter.

My TA does @50 - but the official figure is in the 80's:rolleyes:

when was your car last serviced..??
are the plugs and air filter relatively new.?

DO check your tyre pressures - they'll have quite an effect also,

The plugs and air filter were changed about 1000 miles ago

Sounds very poor for the 1.4 8v. I have exactly the same engine as you, I have always been able to get around 43-45mpg indicated without even thinking about it. A return journey to Plymouth on the main road rather than the A38 dual carriageway will often return over 50mpg indicated.

I think the very worst indicated figure I've had is about 37mpg when I did loads of short trips last winter.

Here's a quick one for you - have a look at your A and B trip figures. Can you jot them all down and post them on here (am assuming at least one of the A and B trips will be a good few hundred miles)? Then I will do the same for you. It's not an exact science but if you have super low mpg readings, I would expect the average speed to be really low as well (indicating loads of stop/start driving etc).

I'm with super ewe on this.
My 2012 now has 19,000 on it and the overall consumption for it is around 43mpg.

On some steady journeys I have seen the journey mpg up to 49mpg. That is mainly open road work and some stop start. Although I always turn THAT off.

If you are getting only 25-30 overall this below what I would expect from the 1.4.

I have the 1.2 with a stainless manifold induction kit and the abarth back box and mine averages 32mpg. Plus I live in Huddersfield all hills and all short journeys mostry 1st 2nd and 3rd. Plus I I'm not the easiest on the throttle!
Do you live in a particularly hilly area or like to "drive" drive often? Still sounds low for a standard 1.4 though.
Check your tyre pressures too low pressure will make it horrendous!
