I have searched on this and the gp threads but have come up with conflicting answers.
The question is : When is the first service due, 18k or one year.?
The schedule says one year if less than 6k miles.
I know the oil is good for 18k and my only concern is to preserve warranty conditions.
Anyone have a definitive answer?

Hi 850kd,

It should have the servicing schedule in your handbook. Ours for example is a 2012 1.4 Easy, and the intervals are stated in km (so 30,000km as opposed to 18,000 miles). It is on page 208 of my Owner Handbook.

If it is the same as ours, then yes, the service schedule states every 18,000 miles or two years for warranty purposes, unless you do less than 6,000 miles a year, in which case you will need to have an oil/filter change done in year one.

However, if you are talking about a brand new Punto, I'm not sure if they have been moved on to Fiat's new 9k miles/1 year schedule or not. The 500/Panda has been, there is quite a good thread here outlining it:
https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-iii/418439-panda-twinair-cross-short-service-intervals.html

Anyway, let us know what age your car is and, if you have it, what the handbook says. Then someone can confirm for you I'm sure(y)

Thanks for the info.

With it being a 64 plate, as mentioned in my other post, your manual may suggest that the car is now on a 9k/1yr schedule.

There is some info on the thread that I linked, but basically for warranty purposes, it appears that you have to arrange for an annual inspection for the first year. No actual consumables are changed though, unless (a) it's below the 6k limit for the oil/filter, or (b) you ask the dealer to change the oil/filters

Anyway, it all depends what your manual says.
