I also have a 2012 Punto - twinair. The passenger side rear taillights are also not working. Have just been told they need it all day to check it and it may not be covered under the 3rd year warrenty. Having seen the postings here wonder if it could be a general issue. Not happy as LED lights should last at least 10 years.

Phone Fiat uk if they say its not covered i got mine done after phoning them ,this is definitely becoming common all on the passenger rear side ,must be a connection or faulty part issue.

Certainly some have complained of moisture they were redesigned(rear clusters) when the 2012 Punto was launched so this should not of been a big problem minimal misting in mine but could affect the circuit board the cluster is attached to .

It's why I ask the question, perhaps electronics or connectors can be affected by moisture inside. If drivers that had a defective cluster can say if they have no/a few / a lot of moisture, we can find a causal link (or not)

cjdl said it was not moisture on his ,it wasn't on mine but lets see what others say im sure they will be many more unfortunately in the coming months .:

Okay.. I would like to understand what is doing this, perhaps we can fix clusters without changing them.
For now it's ok if under warranty, but after...

Yes that's a plan Mkala I didn't get to see what they actually did ,but it's certainly a new cluster ? They are not that expensive ,but should be lasting more than 12-24 months!!!

Hey,

Got a tail light out :bang: On the Punto 2012, they are LEDs. Manual says contact dealer for replacement. I guess that'll be pricey.

It's the entire nearside LED tail light that's out, but brake and indicators are fine. No bulb warning on dash.... so might be a fuse? Does anyone happen to know which fuse to check? Manual doesn't list the tail lights on the fuse locations :bang:

Also, Shop4Parts only seem to sell the entire rear light cluster, which I assume is what they dealer will try to sell me. But Osram (and others) do sell the relevant bulbs.

Anyone happen to know how easy (or possible) it is to get into the LED bulb, if it does indeed require changing?

Part numbers for a) the bulbs, b) the entire light cluster ? Can't find it on ePer, only seems to go to 2005?

Is there any mileage in trying to get this covered under my 3rd year warranty, given LEDs are meant to have a ridiculously long life?

Cheers,
Chris.

I have exactly the same issue. Rear light dim not out. Car in 3rd year of warranty so Fiat dealer wants to charge me £89 ph to tell me if it's under cover or not.

You said your car was going to the dealer what did they say, very interested?

Do we have a definitive answer if it's under warranty or not?

mine in its 3rd year so now dealer warranty.

Dealer said it was caused by water ingress. They opened a case with Fiat who refused to fix it under 3rd years warranty as "lights" are not covered, and they refused to goodwill it.

To be honest, I haven't chased it any further. When i got the car back from the dealer, the problem was gone and it's not happened again - and interestingly, I haven't noticed the lights misting up either. I suspect there was maybe a loose / badly fitted seal or something, and them taking it apart and putting it back together has inadvertently resolved it.

I wasn't charged for the inspection / diagnosis (which surprised me tbh).

HTH.

Hmm, this has happened to my Punto (62 plate 1.4 Easy). Nearside rear LED still works but is about 10-20% brightness as per the numerous other examples on here. Both light clusters have misted up as well, so wouldn't surprise me if that is the cause.

My car is a good two months past the three year date so doubt will have much luck with getting it done under warranty. I suppose I could try ringing Fiat CS tomorrow morning, failing that I will get a local auto electrician to come and have a look.

Well...some good news for the time being!(y)

Went on a relatively long drive today (60 mile round trip), but when setting off I decided to turn my lights on and leave them on for the whole journey to see if that might help to create some heat and get rid of any moisture.

The weather has also been very sunny today; when we parked up, I made sure I found a space with no obstruction to the sunlight, and facing roughly in a northerly direction to give the rear of the car the best possible exposure to the sun.

When I got back to the car after being parked for a good few hours, the driver's side cluster had no misting at all, but the nearside (with the supposed failed LED cluster) had quite a lot of mist inside.

Anyway - I just got home now, and am pleased to say the nearside rear lights are working again. I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes, but I am hoping that my simple "fix" has actually worked:idea:

It's like the hokey cokey on here!:D

Last night was the first frost of the autumn/winter so far, both rear lights were working fine before I left home this morning as I checked them whilst scraping the windscreen.

But when I got to my destination about 15min later, the rear light wasn't working at all, not even at 10-20% power.

Have since got home, left it in the drive facing the sun, and it works again....before stopping again about 2 minutes later:p

Obviously there is a dodgy connection somewhere, so will hopefully get to the bottom of it before long!

my guess is leaking/ weeping screen wash hose / rubber boot where cables entering the car in the top corner ...

my guess is a dry joint on the PCB
