Hi all
rather than posting in the previous thread started by another forum member, I have started my own.
I have been suffering low pressure on start up for some time now. I put into the dealer earlier in the year and had the Fiat technical guy come and take a look as well.
After his visit I was informed that my car was "normal"!!!!!

The problem persists if the car is left for more than a few days. The pressure checks conducted by Fiat show pressure in range for idle and at 4000rpm (once the pressure is up on start up!)

Anyway I have now captured a small video of it - take a look and see if you think this is normal.

If the link below doesn't work then the address is

Hi !

1.4 8V ?

It seems it take a little time to "prime" for a start after a few days of inactivity.

Mine do quite the same, video here :

Nothing to worry I think. If pressure too low, message come on display with beep and red light.

Oil level ok ?
Oil age ?

Seems normal to me, oil too thin gives things like this.
I'm more worried why your using any throttle on start up or do they rev up like that?
Throttle not needed what so ever until oil light out,

Hi Grandeguy

No throttle applied at any time. It has always started like that when cold.

It's running the recommended 5w30 - which to me does seem rather thin for the older design of engine (1.4 8v).
The last oil in it was put in by the dealer after they had dropped the sump to check bearing wear and crank end float.

Thing is I can leave any of my other cars for weeks and the oil light goes out straight away and no bearing noise whatsoever.

Even when I had previous GPs (1.4 and a Tjet) - they never did the same as shown :confused::confused:

Hi Mkala

Thanks for your video.

Yep 1.4 8v.

As above running 5w30 as fitted by the dealer. It's done about 2500 miles since the oil was installed.

Level OK and colour still clean.

Ive just never known an engine take so long to prime after a period of rest.:chin:

As I said in the post above - none of my other cars have ever done it and I can leave them for 6mths. Mind you they aren't Fiats.
A mate has a Pug 205 with 500,000 miles on and it doesn't take as long to prime as my GP.

I did have it once when a dealer supplied a duff oil filter that was allowing drain back. But that was a bad batch. Surely after 3 (OEM) filters on my car the filters are not all faulty - even for other people's cars.

You welcome :) Yes this take long, I agree with you.

The TJet does not take time, and no noise. My old Punto HGT 1.8 had the same noise at start. My old Fiesta started with 2000-2500 RPM, I think it's a solution to rapidly pressurize the oil system and avoid this.

As you say, perhaps 5wXX is too thin and take a bit of time to raise pressure... but's its the correct grade for this engine.
