This happen more and more often. Not really surprised.

Don't know technically the reason, but it is "epidemic" if you speak with your mechanic (if he is honest).

Nowadays, Punto has the problem, Stilo has had; and other make are impacted : Clio, Corsa, Fiesta (was the case with my previous car) and many others...

20 years ago it wasn't the case ?
Probably a new way to manufacture the springs, a thing to spare a penny and to change 10% of springs instead 0.1%... money money law (n)

Yes i know the Stilo had numerous problems with snapped springs, but my previous 500 was pretty good just the early flashing mileage problem,my fifteenth fiat and first time with a spring:) ,so possibly down to cheaper parts these days to keep costs down like you say ,should of kept my old punto 1.9 hgt ,it was faultless lol just old:D

of our 27 fiat we had a rear spring break on a tempra SW ( good car),
seen plenty on Fords,
but as you say it's a shock -scenario,
of speed humps / pot holes, as long as FIAT cover it..it's just an inconvenience,

at least being nearly new it will still be close the the original on the other side,
after 50K I tend to change a pair of complete units,
Charlie

As i say they are changing both sides so i can`t ask for more ,my courtesy car is a 1.2 500 63 reg brings back memories of my old 500 in 2008 a little less refined (than the punto)but still good fun to drive ,and i do like the centred gear lever ,shame it`s not in the punto ,while it`s in i`m getting the 18000 mile service 185 quid all in not bad.(y)

That is not bad. You would pay 60 quid for the springs. Service as well is a plus. I paid 200 quid just for two springs on a 306 diesel. OK I was stuck miles from home and the garage knew that but now I know where to borrow spring compressors and I do it myself now.
