It's entirely possible I could be tripping... but aren't the Punto EVO/2012s (MY12+) supposed to have heated door mirrors, as standard ?

I ask, because I'm sure mine does, or did... but if it does... it's utterly ******'d.

Any way to check / find out, without taking the mirror apart ? :bang:

Heated mirrors are self-regulated, so they dont really come hot. But if all is frosted/really cold you can find them warm by touching.

I'm not sure they come as standard of if you need to take the option "electrical adjustable mirror and outside temperature" (I have this and mirrors are heated)

Try to turn on the rear window when cold, and touch the mirrors after 5-10min.

sounds right.. if they are electrically controlled - then they should be heated..,and they should clear frost in less that 1 minute..! - with rear screen turned on(AND working..!!)

not had an EVO but that is my experience with my 2013 TA punto and my older high-spec FIATS,
how about taking off the triangle trim at top front edge of door and seeing what wring you've got to the mirror?,

Regulated in what sense? They're on as long as the rear screen is.

Like you say, should be warm to the touch, with the rear of the hand.

They won't last the life of the car though, from personal experience they need to be changed every 3-4 years as the heater elements fail eventually.

They're on as long as the rear screen is.

They're not, they turn off "after a few minutes" according to the manual on one page, and 20 mins on another - although thats stated for the combined rear screen / mirrors instructions - so may just refer to the rear screen.

Hmm. Well it's the 2012 GBT I bought with zero miles on it last September, so I'd expect it still to be working. I'm SURE I noticed it doing it's thing last year, but this year they are staying frosted.

Rear screen is working fine, and they are electrically adjustable, and I do have the outside temp guage. According to spec sheets online, all but 'Pop' spec come with them as standard.

I'll try the turn it on and see if it gets warm trick, and if not, a trip to the dealer me thinks !

Yep, should be under warrenty, interesting about them turning off after a few mins, don't do that on the Stilo, and don't recall seeing that on the Bravo handbook

It IS Fiat we're talking about. Notice the 'For versions/markets where provided'. I might just have a Barbados spec car

I could swear they worked last year, I distinctly remember thinking 'these heated mirrors are really good, keeps them nice and clear'...

Yes they are always ON (till the LED is on on the rear windows heating button) but the material of the resistor track has a lower impedance when cold, and this impedance rise when hot. (seach PTC heater / foil heater if you want more info)

With this system, the mirror defrost really quickly and dont overheat if used tens of minutes. And the cost/need of a regulation is avoided :)

Ok, so they do work (and they DO get warm - cheers for the suggestion). But, what seems to be happening is they get warm enough to melt the frost/ice... but not quite warm enough to make it evaporate... so, it turns to steam/mist... they look like they are still frozen, but they are actually just misted up.

But, a quick wipe after a couple of minutes, and all is well. Maybe I'm expecting too much of them ? :D

They shouldn't dry, but defrost and turn to water, and look like they would if it has rained and they're covered in rain water.

Strange.. they should come enough warm to avoid misting, except perhaps when you enter a tunnel (but should disapear after couple of minutes).

I'll try with mine if they are frosted next days.
