Re: Welcome to the New Punto 2012 section

Was in a Fiat dealer the other day and they had one of the new Punto's on display however it had an 'Evo' badge on the back, the salesman said it was an error and was astonished that a 'joe public' had noticed the error :P

Gotta love that Melfi Factory - in the Punto Evo it was fitting fog lights with no switch to switch them on with & in the 2012 Punto they're fitting Evo badges on non-Evo's & not fitting plastic mirror surrounds. Still, i'd rather them do that than forget the engine. Maybe they will one day

The only thing I am not looking forward to is the start/stop. gonna be odd getting used to that! Anyone else ordered one?
Sounds like it'll be a very nice spec. I'd played on the configurator a few times & adding everything i wanted to the Multijet Lounge (3dr) came out pretty pricey - did they knock any money off or was it the standard £1400 deposit contribution on Finance & no more?

If you don't like the idea of Start-Stop you can always switch it off on the dash - my Parents have been doing that on their new 500. Tbh i don't like the idea of a turbo engine starting & stopping without having chance to cool down at idle, so i'd probably avoid using it most of the time. Only trouble is you have to switch it off each time you restart the engine.

My 116d has stop/start and it does take some getting used to. I haven't been able to beat that one but I will try the Punto when it arrives
Not sat in a 2012 Punto yet but the Evo, which shared its interior with the 2012 Punto in all but base 'Pop' trim (this has a Grande dash), was leagues ahead of the Grande's & used bits from the bigger Bravo and the Alfa MiTo. The Evo owners seem to report miles less problems than Grande owners too, so the build quality appears to be more than just skin-deep.

How did you get them to remove the alloys on the Easy? Is it an option to just do without them? It seems to put them on as standard on the website & you can only change to other alloy designs, rather than steel wheels

Looking forward to seeing some on the roads!

Pretty fortunately my wifes father works for Fiat so got quite a nice Ticket discount and I'm selling the car that I have got (they gave me a CAP price which was low but I have the option to sell it before hand) i'll have to see what the Start/Stop is like, I guess I'll get used to it (all this new fangled Tech eh?)

Re: Welcome to the New Punto 2012 section

Hi JTD Liam

I asked the dealer for the alloys to be deleted and I was told no problem and told they would reduce the price by £300 (the cost option for alloys).

I too can't see it as an option on the list but the dealer stated they had ordered a number like it.

I wish i knew someone that worked for Fiat, could save a fortune. I might put that question to any future prospective partner - 'do you have a relative that works for Fiat'

The Start-Stop only works in certain conditions (ie not when the Aircon is running, not when the engine is cold etc) so you may find it ok. Im just abit wary from the point of view of it not allowing the turbo to cool down gradually, which is something i try to do in turbo engines.

That's very good. The website is known to have mistakes, but maybe you just found a particularly accomodating dealer. Either way it's nice to save a few quid!

Maybe I should have checked before hand, Aston Martin or Lamborghini may have been a better call! I'll be honest, my aircon is pretty much always on so probably won't kick in anyway. Here's a weird one, the 16" alloys are free on the configurator, talk about cheap upgrade

Re: Welcome to the New Punto 2012 section

I popped into my local dealers yesterday, I can tell you an internal "feature" that still has not changed. Just to the left of the drivers left leg there is a little plastic vent that sticks out and catches your trousers when you try to push the clutch in.

It was sticking out on the one in the showroom.

Not a good advert for a brand new car IMO.

Seats were much more comfortable than my evo though.

Anyway we have ordered our Easy with Exotic red paint and the options of the full blue & me and cruise control

Delivery is expected around August/Sept.
That is a long build time??

(I haven't read through the whole thread) Seems to me on first impression the new '2012 punto' is same as evo but they changed that awful front end that cost them sales big time!

Yes i agree with you totally ,
Ordered a lounge version so the wait begins as it did with my 500 4 years ago.

Exactly right.

If they had kept the original shape and improved the interior, plus added quietness and more kit, they would have maintained sales. The suspension of the Linea (same chassis as the Punto) is tweaked to offer a very soft, quiet and comfortable ride. It rolls a bit but the comfort is unsurpassed in this segment. Fiat might have gone down the path of offering the most comfortable, best equipped B segement hatchback by fitting the Linea bushings etc., and watched what happened. Some people just love a quiet comfortable car and a cushioned ride on our roads would have been a unique selling point. Instead Fiat has lost sales and probably won't recover them. The design hash-up was a big mistake and must have cost a fortune.

Having said that, the latest front end is very smart and the Punto is again the best looking car in the segment, I think

Approx 13 weeks which takes us into at least august and as i remember Fiat give their workers all of august off as their annual leave so it looks like a 62 reg for us both
