I did a search on this and couldn't find anything so my aologies if i'm posting something that's already been posted.

My mk1 punto 55 doesn't have a temp gauge only the overheating light. I've never been keen on this and would prefer to have the proper gauge. Did fiat fit one on the higher specced cars? and if so what are the chances of me being able to straight swap the dials over, plugging in and hey presto?

:)

My car is a '94. I gather the wiring is different & i don't really want to faff about with it, which means i may go the in the direction of fitting an aftermarket gauge elsewhere on the dash. Instead of messing with the wiring loom how easy is it to simply wire up directly from the temp sensor?

its easy just fit the new clocks and you just need to change the temp sensor on the back of the head to 1 from an sx model and the temp guage will work.

its simple to do i did mine 2 days ago but i also wired the rev counter up which is also simple(1 wire to add to get it working).

good luck and hope i helped

You would need to do the same wiring job to get an aftermarket one to work lol. It really is very easy. Only rewiring is for the rev counter, and as Darren said you replace the temp sender with an analogue one, as opposed to digital. The link I gave tot he How-To is very helpful when you get round to doing it.
