I have a 2000 Punto 80 HLX speedgear 1.2 16V 5dr, and when it is
idling it misfires, the revs go from 900ish down to 500ish and then
back to 900ish. The local garage replaced the spark cables and
this seem to cured the problem... only 150-200 miles later it
did the same... then they replaced them again... it cured it for
150-200 miles and it is misfiring again.
The guy told me that this is a typical Punto/Stilo problem he has
seen it in many cars but he doesn't know how to fix it ...

Any ideas ??? Does anyone of you experience the same ?

i would find out if they have replaced the plugs with the same make/rating and if so try a different make.if that doesnt cure then something must be causeing the plugs to burn out in the ignition system

Thanks for the info! I checked the FIAT recalls and didn't find
anything related, but that was the Uk site. I don't know if the
LHD version is any different. It may be a coil problem.
Are the coild located on top of the sparks or is it a
seperate unit ?
Is there a workshop manual for those ?

coil packs are on the right of engine looking at car from the front, they are under a plastic cover.
EDIT; To test coil pack, take no 1 plug out( timing belt end) put lead back on turn engine over if plug dont spark its the rear coil pack, if plug does spark put it back and do the same with no 2 plug if that dont spark its the front coil pack.
you can do this test with new plugs with out removing the old ones if you like.
