Hey there people!
I'm new to the forum and have come to you guys for advice. Well i've just bought a Punto 75SX for £650 from auction about 1 week ago. Problem is that the head gasket went the next day. Anyway i've left a forum on the head gasket part in the technical side of the Punto Forum.

My query for the General side of the forum is about insurance quotes. Quotes i've recieved seem a bit high for a Punto. Does anyone know any Fiat Insurance Specialists or anywhere where I can get great deals for my insurance. I've spent hours yesterday and today making calls and now i've got a buzzing noise in my ear, lol!
Anyway i'd appreciate every feedback I get!
Thanks guys.

If you let us know about your age etc. we could probably tell you if the quotes are about right?

Wow!
You were super fast with the reply! Well heres my details as you requested. Before that, I was hoping to put my mum as 1st drive and me as second. She's put here no claims bonus on the car the she drive along with my dad. Some companies didn't accept the no claims on the car because it's already in use. Anyway before I bore you to death, here are the details that I gave when asking for quotes...

* Fiat Punto 75SX, 96/N, 3 Door.
* (Me) 19yrs, f/t sales assistant.
* (Mum) age...urm, license held: 9+ yrs, f/t housewife
* Have held license for 19mths but having insurance for 1st time.
* Garaged
* Social use only

Well i've checked the net but when I phone up the company to confirm the price given on their website they seem to add another 100 quid or so for the extra charges?
I'm looking for Third Party Fire & Theft. Cheapest quote was £1450 (TPFT). Quotes were from the good old Yellow Pages!

the cheapest place i found when getting insurance for my Punto was from egg.com. I'm fully comp with breakdown cover and my insurance is just over £700 for the year.

Punto 55 SX all in black... That's my bitch!

1450 is a daft price
im payin 900 with the co-op......dont use the net as there usually rong, jus ring them up (an ignore the buzzing noises in ur ear afterwards ;))

Yes, definately try to forget using the next for most companies. I have a Uno 1.0 (was 17 when first insured, now 18) had pass plus and got £900 TPFT and spent 3 hours getting this quote, in the end from Churchil.

We all hear good things about:

CIS (especially with using the NCB from your Mum, they love doing that for some reason and are very young person friendly in that way)
Tesco - not competitive for me however
Norwich Union (although this is very varied)

It's very difficult to suggest what you will be paying...it all depends on how second driver friendly the company is. As I say, get CIS to come and visit you (they are friendly like that) and they will advise you and apparently can be cheap).

You might also think about starting your own insurance however. Remember you can't really do what you're doing forever and starting letter in life might cost you more. Get ALL companies to give you a quote on both yourself alone then as a named driver under your mum. Compare and see which works out best for you.

Oh, sorry, CIS = Co-op insurance, www.cis.co.uk at a guess. Then www.tesco.co.uk or www.norwichunion.co.uk. If possible though, phone!

How long is your mum's NCB? If maximum (i.e. 7 years +) expect around £700-900 for a serious quote).

Hope i've been of help, i have a lot of experience with insurance quotes having spent the best part of days looking! lol, oh well.

Best of luck.

Paul

Thanks for the advice! I'm sure it will help alot. By the way, you said that "CIS come visit you"??? Daft question here -> Do they really come vist you, or was that a mistake in what you were trying to explain.

Cheers!:D

When I got an online quote of x pounds they wouldn't sell it to me online. The only selection you can do (or could do 8 months ago) was: Get a representitive to come and visit you. I.e. very personal approach and a lot better service. Maybe they have changed that system (must be expensive; especially if time wasters do it!) but I liked the idea at the time.

So im summary, yes, at least they did, come visit you and not sort it all out on the phone.

they're pretty big and I got a quote a few months ago as if I was a new driving etc. and saved over £150 which got me annoyed! One girl at school I am friends with is going with them next year because she saves £300! Worth a look. However, they phoned me 10 times over the next fortnight trying to get me to take up the quote lol!

norwich union are giving 52% off on your first insurance if you do a passpluss, you dont have to do passpluss first you can do it after you take out policy then when you have done passpluss you get 52% back off the remainder of the years insurance,

Please do not Email or PM me asking for support. Post on the forums instead. Your reply may help someone else. Thank you

52%!!!! WOW!!!!! WIsh they had done that deal when I started driving. However, for this particular case, the driver has past his test more than a year a go, and isn't a year the maximum amount of time after your test you can do it? Correct me if i am wrong.

Hi there ,

Re: insurance on an Uno. Try a classic car insurance broker. Just do a web search for classic car insurance.

When I had just passed my test all the usual suspects wanted at least £800 but the classic car company only wanted £550.

It doesn't sound like much of a classic - but any car over 10 years old counts.

Incidently - I now get quotes in my name for about £450 from the regular dealers... it's just those first couple of years...

I drive a Lancia Y10, my second, the one I passed my test in has since gone to the scrapper - may it rust in pieces!

Regards,

Martin

Fix It Again Tony!

Well I will only be driving mine up until October when my insurance runs out and I go off to Uni so it doesn't apply to me but thanks for the advice anyway.
