Hi folks

I have a Punto ELX 1.2, 2000 model. Sometimes when i change the gears to 1st or 2nd the stick feels as if it gets stuck and requires a little bit of effort to move into place. When it does i get the feeling as if the gears down below went through a 'squeeze', usually accompanied by a light feeling on the stick or a very faint audible sound, the same sound you hear when someone 'slams' the gear lever. I usually experience this when I move off from a stationary position. I don't have any problems with the other gears. Anyone ever went through anything similar?

Its just the Puntos crappy gearbox. I've had a new fiat gearbox fitted and it does the same thing.

Don't worry about it. Its not even the clutch because I've had that renewed as well.

Sorry...just noticed that you have an ELX, which means you have a Mk2 Punto. Emmm...I'm guessing that it will essentially be the same crappy Fiat gearbox, but maybe someone with a Mk2 could confirm that!?

I have got a Punto ELX 2000 to and yes I have similar problems.

Going from 1st to 2nd can be realy stiff at times more noticable when cold, also can crunch in to 2nd or 3rd when warmed up. My dealer has already changed my 2nd gear????

Going back in garage next week

Can you let me know if your punto judders when you pull away in 1st gear, mine is doing it but its intermitant.

I have a punto sporting 2000 and the seems to sometimes crunch from 1st to 2nd no matter how far i put the clutch down.

Re. juddering...no i never felt it... If you feel it only on the first gear i 'might' suspect there's something wrong with that gear, but can't be so sure. Or..(no offense meant!)..could it be that maybe the handbrake would still be slightly engaged when you move off and the indicator on the dash is failing to show it?

If i get to know something on the matter i'll post it here!

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY PUNTO THE GEARS ARE CRAP.

The Fiat gearboxes have always had excessive gates on them, its really meant to stop you putting them into 1st or 2nd while you are driving fast, this would ultimately destroy the weak Fiat gearbox. All I can suggest is a slower change and gearbox oil addatives.
