Hey guys,
My temp gauge, basically doesnt work. Think the sensors gone or something so gonna get it checked soon.
I have noticed reasonably high fuel consumption though since it stopped working..
Is the sensor linked to the fuel consumption via the ecu?

the coolant temp sensor is probably faulty or there is a wiring fault in its circuit. this will stop the gauge working, and it will also affect fuel economy and performance since the ecu uses the signal from the coolant temp sensor to adjust the fuel injection. when a sensor fails a default value is used instead to keep the car running, but this wastes fuel. the coolant temp sensor is cheap and easy to replace. depends what age punto. the mk1 has seperate sensors for the gauge and ECU.

316) Yetep: 1998 R MK1 60SX 1.2 Blue

in which case, the sensor has nothing to do with the fuel consumption.

the sender for the gauge is on the back of the head, timing end of the engine and costs around a fiver

the sender for the ECU sticks out the right hand side of the inlet manifold, and is around 30quid.

they aint linked.
