Hi Folks,

About 4 weeks I was driving on a motorway doing about 50mph when my Punto suddenly lost power, I looked at the dials and the engine block light had come on. I drove to my Fiat garage at 30mph and left it with the to check it out. As I had 10,000 miles on the clock I decided to get it serviced at the same time. I collected the car the next day, and was told by the service manager that the ECU chip had gone and they had replaced it. I drove the car back to work, but found that the car lacked power and ticked over very low. I also noticed intermittant power drops when accelerating through the lower gears, I bought the car back to the garage and the mechanic who serviced the car took it for a drive around a housing estate with me but couldn't find anything wrong with it. He took it back to the garage and hooked it up to the diagnostic equipment he had and discovered that there was an older rev of the software on it and he then upgraded the software on it. It did improve the tick over and there was more power, but I still had the intermittant acceleration power drop issue.

Has anyone had this issue?
What should I do? A cousin of mine said that I should ask the garage to swap out the whole ECU unit and see if that fixes the problem?

Any advise is greatly appreciated

Tx

The other day my Mk2 lost power and the injecter system light came on....the fiat garage replaced my ECU and said there had been a few mk2 punto's with the same problem and that they need to re-programme every mk2 that comes in!! (lol) The problem with mine was that the ECU wasnt sending the right information to one of the coils- so it wasnt sparking and 2 cylinders weren't firing.
How much is the decrease in power/torque?
Your car is under warranty isn't? the dealer should sort out any problems with your car

EVERYONE- SPRAY YOUR PUNTOS BLACK

Check with your Fiat dealer as there is a recall on Mk2 1.2 8v Puntos.

A circuit inside the ECU can become faulty, reprogamming is neccessary for the ECU. Call your dealer to see if your car needs the recall work doing on it.

Well they said they replaced the ECU chip first off (then again maybe they didn't) and then when I brought it in the second time they reprogrammed it. But still seeing issues, wonder if I should go back and make them replace the whole ECU unit????

Rang the Garage and they have me booked in for the 5th of May, the service manager insists that they replaced the ECU unit and it shouldn't act up. So they said they would take it in and take some readings to send off to Fiat. So not full of confidence that I'm going to get the problem sorted. He also maintained that you cannot reprogram these units and that they are replaced and returned to Fiat who recondition them.
Should I have pushed them to swap out the ECU to rule it out?[?]

Thanks

Snake
