I'm looking to buy a Punto from a dealer - X reg, 2000 Fiat Punto, just over 30,000 miles for about 2000 pounds. It drove very smoothly on test drive etc, and checked out with HPi checks, all the paperwork seemed in order etc. The only problem is that there is a loud rattle from the exhaust everytime it starts up. The dealer said that is because the exhaust has just been changed, and that this is a longstanding problem with the older puntos. According to him, the exhausts are now made for newer puntos, are are different and slightly shorter than the old exhausts, which makes it rub against the axle and rattle quite a lot when you start up the car, and when going over humps if the car is weighed down a lot in the back. The rattle doesnt worry me IF it is nothing sinister, but the whole explanation worried me a little. Was wondering your opinion? The exhaust did look very new when we looked at it, but I just dont know.
