Howdy folks, posting on behalf of my pal, who only just got her 51-plate Mk2 up and running. She bought it a couple of months ago and dumped it at her gran's house, where it sat until yesterday when I collected it for her in preparation for her fast-approaching driving test.

Anyway, car seems to be running fine apart from a couple of niggles which I'm hoping you lot can help me with:

1) The front windscreen wipers seem to get "stuck" on the glass when it's dry, and "jerk" very slowly down the glass in the most unnerving of ways! Thought it was just dodgy blades, but replaced them today and it's still happening. They move alright when the windscreen is lubricated, but when dry (i.e. towards the end of the screenwash cycle) they just stutter down the glass.

2) There is a very loud and annoying "clunking" sound coming from the rear when I go over big bumps. I initially thought it was something in the boot, but upon taking everything including the spare wheel and all associated parts out of the boot it still did it. It's most noticeable from the near-side, but when going over speedbumps I'm sure I can also hear it from the off-side. It almost sounds as if the car's bottoming-out, but I don't think it is. The car's handling and braking seems perfect.

3) This is more just annoying than worrying... when I turn the steering wheel there is a slight clicking noise, which almost turns into a buzzing noise the faster I turn the wheel? Something needing some WD40?

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers :D

1) mk2 wipers don't seem to be upto much...check the sticky's for a thread about this.
2) at a guess I'd say the bushes on the rear are worn.
3) not a clue on that 1....soz

1. could be the wiper motor causing that..

2. might be the backbox needs adjusted away from the axle..

3. dont know about a clicking mine makes a wooshing sound got used to it now though..

On virmins old mk2

1) The linkage could probably do with a clean up and grease.
(puntomk2 has a lot of information on this)

2) As punto power said

3) Same as virmins old one...nothing ever came of it, but clicks whirring and a little whine seemed to be the norm.

Thanks for the quick reply folks, I'll have a look at the areas in question in the morning and report back ;)

Sorted out number 2, turns out the backbox-midpipe clamp had loosened, resulting in the backbox hitting the rear axle.

Update on number 1: stuttering only happens when the wipers are set to their lowest speed. Any ideas how to fix it? Tempted to remove the wiper motor and give it a good clean up.

1. Could try buying bosch wipers from halfords, the driver side wiper will have the spoiler attached to it prevents the wipers juddering, that is though if it dosnt already have a spoiler.

2. Could be the common problem for the 01 puntos, wrong grease on contacts causing wipers to judder, you have to screw open wiper motor from the top then clean contacts and re-grease them tools needed for this are Phillips screwdriver, Ratchet with extension, T20 size torques, Switch Cleaner, Switch Lubrication Grease (Not normal grease) (y)

3. Could be just the motor is buggerd.
