Mini Cooper S Works: 200hp?
RenaultSport Clio 182: 182hp
Peugeot 206 GTi 180: 180hp
Ford Fiesta RS: 180+hp
Seat Ibiza Cupra: 180hp
Volkswagon Polo Gti: 150hp
Skoda Favorite Vrs: 130hp (Diesel with 220lb/ft?!!)

Fiat Punto HGT: 130hp (!)

How embarrasing. What's wrong with Fiat these days?

Let the flaming commence...

Here come da judge...

FIAT should blatantly find a way to shoehorn the Coupe's 20-valve turbo motor into the Punto, along with a decent 6-speed manual 'box. If I recall correctly, the turbo Coupe was good for 220bhp...more than enough to p*ss all over nasty little skips such as 206 GiT's/Polo GiT's/bloody Fiestas! :D

As it stands, FIAT lovers like us will have to settle for the Punto being far better looking than all the above :p

Look at the prices, the HGT's a lot cheaper than them!

And they look damn bloody fantastic if you have the abarth version :D

OK - so we like our Punto HGT and the way it looks and , yes, I have to agree the Italian car has a little something that the others don't. However, bottom line is, assuming the pilot is suitably committed, you'll watch most of the above disappear over the horizon in a straight line battle.

This is simply unacceptable - there's a tradition of the Fiat being the fast (if flawed) car - the Mirafiori Sport had the edge over an RS2000 in it's day, the Strada Abarth continued the tradition by bloodying the Golf GTi's nose and the Punto GT gave Saxos and 106's a good kicking in a straight line.

So what to do? For a Boss Punto, we need 180+hp and torque like a Mack Truck, and we all know that the Five Pot won't fit so what would be the best option and when do you think Fiat will announce it?:

1. High Pressure Turbo version of the new (all alloy?) 1.4 16v engine.
2. Light Pressure Turbo version of the existing (Iron Block?)1.8 16v engine.

I think you have to take the prices into account when discussing which is the best car.
And the Polo is 125-130bhp when standard and the HGT would beat it as the polo is a heavier car. It would be close though

The HGT would keep up very well with 1.8T's. That means LOADS of drivers on the road to make look silly.
