Can i take a 1.8L 16v petrol engine from a 3d Mk2B and put i in a 5d MK2 originally with 1.2L 8V petrol engine?
Any problems errors might occur easy/hard? Worth the converstion for extra ooomf?
Has anyone got a new more powerful engine?

x

You'll need to hcange more than just the engine for a start. You'll also need to do the brakes firstly....as well as probably need to change wiring looms...and the ECU

To be honest with you mate i think you would be better off doing what 'H2DaE' said. I recon if you sold your 8v and brought a hgt you would be spending less money than you would to a engine change and all that comes with it. If you do decide to do it keep us posted :)

If you could find a donor hgt then it would work out cheaper, though your insurance would be higher on a conversion than a factory original hgt.

You would also need to change the braking system (abs) and fit wheel sensors and hubs, as the hgt uses abs signals to pick up speed signal for the efi.

wow sounds like way too much work! never mind, im not selling my baby! shes nifty so ill make do with 1.2 and get a second car when im richer lol.
Thanks for your help guys

Dump a 1.2 16v in. Lanciamad has done the conversion so he can give you advice.

And/Or put on a 6-speed gearbox.

I didnt mate, tried and failed lol. I have 6 speed box.

If you want to go 1242 16v then use the 8v ecu and the mk1 engine, the mk2 engine and ecu is next impossible to do.

If she's like me she maybe doesn't like th 3dr shape, the front and side profiles are OK, esp without rub strips
BUT the back end on 3dr's just looks horrible.
5dr looks classier and less cheesy

Hi no i like the 3dr shape, just not the fact it has 3 doors! i think im just going to buy a second punto, yellow abarth. Anyone got one for sale? So i have a spiffy 5dr that people can fit in and a sporty 3door. Both georgeous!

shall i wait for a yellow abarth to come on the market or buy a hgt and put abarth kit on it? Whats the difference between the two does anyone know?

Buy the best HGT you can find regardless of colour.

Erm...just a cynical sidenote(since I'm good at those) if ya DO go for an engine swap...your insurance would probably be higher than it would from just buying a car with a bigger engine.
Oh...and forget mk2/2b.....mk1 are much nicer :p

mk2's are generally not very nice looking IMO.

the higher end stuff like the HGT and sportings look fab, but without the skirts and stuff they look a bit nasty
exterior is still nicer than the cometition though(y)
interior is a joke though, the vents don't even match

better in a crash then any mk1 you care to find/

with the mk2 you've got teh HGT, and several fab diesel engines to choose from.

personally I would find a mk2b HGT.jtd, OR a 1.9jtd in mk2a shape. and then go to town on the engine and styling.
would work out much cheaper on insurance than a full blown HGT (not as quick even tuned though), but better on juice, and your more likely to use it all the time.
