I'm taking my rocker cover off tomorrow as i am cleaning it up!!! Will there be any problems taking the cover off and putting back on???

Also once cleaned and ready will i need to prime it first or can i go straight on with the paint ??

Thanks

Yes mate i sure have!! I take it i can get the new gasket at my local motorist centre probs and are easy to fit? I take it the holymar is just a sealant then?

Didin't think it would be this much hassle. Thought it would be cover off, clean and spray put back on :( from reading other threads tho seems ok! The gasket jst goes round the edge of the cover doesn't it on the inside?

Clean up the cover with a bit on unleaded petrol...daft though that sounds. Oh...and don't put the petrol in a plastic container (except petrol can) cos it'll melt.
You might also want to attack the cover with a wire brush to clean it a bit more....u can also use steel wool.
Paint in thin coats, building up....to prevent runs of course. Don't forget a few coats of clear engine lacquer once you've finished painting to give it a bit of protection...you should be able to get engine lacquer in gloss or matt from anywhere that supplies VHT paint.

you can get one paint that does all of the above., you dont need primer or anything coz the paint is kinda similar to primer in its thickness and doesnt drip as easily as gloss and its made to just spray straight on to metal,.,.

and about the gasket, you dont "NEED" to replace it but it would be silly not to as they always leak and are very cheap so you might as well.,.,oh and dont forget the sealant dave mentioned.,.,

Thanks for the replies.

To clean the rocker cover i gave it a good wash, got some engine cleaner on it and gave it a scrub, wire brushed it, more engine wash then wet & dry sandpaper to make it completely smooth finished off with white spirit to get rid of grease left on!! I have ordered another gasket from locak shop for £7 and will be in tomorrow! The painting is going well also and is looking great!

Thanks for the help

No1 mentioned Primer :p
You use VHT paint....without primer straight on to clean bare metal.....in thin coats as advised as ANY paint can run. The lacquer isn't necessary but does give an added level of protection.
