Hi there.
i have just gone out in my punto Mk1 on a N plate, and on my journey the key code light was flashing permanently, i then stopped and turned off, and tried to restart, and car was turning over but not starting.
i have tried reseating all the electrics and checked HT leads as well as disconnecting the ECU for 15minutes and when i turn the ignition all i get is the spark plug, battery, handbrake and the key code light on permanently.
Please help as i need the car for Monday!!!!!

Cheers

Check that batt+ and ign+ are present at immobilser. If they are then the immo is most probably faulty.
If you have the red key then I believe a new immo (not s/h) can be fitted. Dont know the correct procedure for doing that, but someone will.
If no red key then its expensive if you go the Fiat route. Other options are bypass immo, or have immo decoded and replaced. If you want help on that then PM me. You will have to move youself if you want it for Monday!.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

where is the immobiliser situated, so that i can check the batt+ and ign+
Car has been running fine, had no problems for 2yrs, and then this happens!, no signs of it about to go wrong either

could this possibly be a coil problem. Today i tried to test the coil, by using the method of takin each HT lead out of the coil, and trying to measure the resistance across the 2 coils, but could not get a reading even though the meter was set to read resistance.

Firstly check if the CODE light goes off after 2 secs.. If it does then the immobiliser is ok. Light always on = immobiliser problem
Battery may be dead in multimeter for resistance reading.
If immo is ok, then coils and/or crankshaft sensor suspect.
Remove panel under r/h side dash to reveal fusebox, remove vertical 10mm bolt to remove immo.

yeh i had spare key with me, both keys dont do anything, engine turns but key code light stays on permanently. No red key either

Maybe the reciver ring on ignition to code box is broke and not getting the code from key also ive known for a fuse to blow in the engine bay that will make the car not start and code light stays on and the injecter light does not come on..?

Afraid its down to the immo or ECU or wiring between, but my money is on the immo. All the clues are in your original post:-
Once the car is running there is no communication between key and immo or between immo and ECU. So when the CODE light started flashing whilst driving it was doing it without any help from anything else, so it must be operating incorrectly.

(immo is connected directly to CODE light)
