General Highest mileage punto on the forum?

Im 4 weeks short of have 150k on my 1997 TD and its still going strong!!;)

I have a 2002 Fiat Punto Sporting. It is about to hit 140,000 miles this week. Still drives like the day I bought it on 27k in 2005.
All the electrics still work.
No head gasket issues at all. :worship:
Only replaced the clutch and cambelt as major parts (still cheap though).
usual plugs, leads, tyres etc as and when required.

I dont have a major service each year. If it isnt broke, why tamper? You get a feel for how your car is performing and what it needs. I know that sounds weird but its true. (y)

Pictures or it didnt happen!

Ziggy

I will take some picks and upload them ASAP (y)
Will take them with the Car idling so you can see that its functioning as it should with the mileage showing.

I think I even have a photo somewhere of me achieving 60mpg on a dual carriageway!! Dont know how I achieved that, as I dont drive slowly

Here you go! A pic taken of the Puntos cluster last night, after I broke the magic 140,000mile barrier. I remember seeing it on 139,999miles for a while and didnt see it change, was concerned that the dopey Italian computer was only programmed to that level as they never expected it to get that high

My secret to high mileage and a fully functional car? Nothing to do with servicing in all honesty. I get the oil changed perhaps once a year regardless of my mileage. Only had coolant changed when Cambelt and water pump were done. Never had it done at any other service.

The car has 6 gears and although nippy around town, I find just getting it up to temp on a decent motorway run with lots of miles is soooo much better than city traffic! I think that blowing the cobwebs out of it is the secret to its long lasting success! (y)

Spark plugs, HT leads? Dont change them if they are working. Whats the point? They convery electricity and if they're working, why chance a new set, which could be faulty. This has happened in the past. I replace only when the car shows a missfire sign. Something it hasnt done in 2 years!
